    Ref. 5003 X 3 that is...... :)

Tracy is in town and so is his 5003, hence a small Buhler GTG was held last night @ 10pm.

I was the first one there...

SC --I love you guys and I love IWC, but the one watch I don't like is the 5003. There are several reasons for this:

--the Unitas base movement is more than ordinary, but not befitting an IWC,
--the complication is cute, but scarcely haute horology
--the real value of the watch is in its scarcity, but depending on the person that's a result of either (a) connections or (b) willingness to say "charge it".

By my standards, many of the other pieces in your collection are much more valuable as real collectors' pieces.

Sorry, I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, and I may be the lone dissenter here.

    Hahaha....no problem Michael.

To each of his own, I am glad I have this piece in my BP collection and I know 6 of the owners. :)

    Cheers,

SC, what a great reunion. How can you make Markus more proud than showing your infinite joy in his watches - the work of a genius! Thank you for sharing!

    David,
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Isn't that why you started your own forum? You are being selectively disingenuous here.

If I well remember, the idea of 5003 came to recognize the originality of a project made by a young watchmaker whose creation was the typical work to celebrate the end of his apprenticeship, to prove his mastery.

I think both opinions may come together, the watch is nice and fun, its calibre is somehow "ordinary" so, congrats to you guys for the watch and for sharing, thank you - always thank you Michael - for your comments.

Ha, if I remember some weird comments, some time ago, complaining this forum was not giving enough freedom to speak... LOL

Wow, three of them! And all I want is just one!

Must have been a fine GTG! Thanks for all the pictures.

You are not the lone dissenter, and I do not even consider the "complication" cute. I find it absurd.

I'm glad SC took my comments so well, and Roberto you understood perfectly.

I think Markus Buehler is a talented watchmaker and mean no disrespect to him or the originality of the project culminating his apprenticeship. Also, if someone is happy with their watch, that's great and what it's all about; different people have different opinions on many models.

Several of the 5003s became a "quick grab to buy and flip". I know SC's is not one of those, but to me that phenomenon is sad.

SC and fellow fliers (from this post) - absolutely great to see these watches coming together. As MF correctly writes, those are very limited editions and truly scarce pieces - so seeing so many of them together in one place (whether or not the actual watch appeals t one) is and remains a special moment in time.

For me it's great to see the camaraderie and IWC passion that lies behind this GTG, and it's great to see these watches together in the photos.

    Thanks for sharing.

had a chance to try this one on again this evening -- for me it is an incredibly unique watch, especially when we enter an era when IWC no longer makes variations of editions as 'radical' as the ref 5003, or some of the earlier wempe and cellini editions.

the price inflation is astounding - and probably underserved in my opinion - but still, one interesting watch to wear and look at.

It's such a rare occasion to see 3 very limited watches in the same setting at once. I was always curious with this particular model as why IWC used the Unitas instead of Palleton movement. Regardless, great to see pictures.

I have worn Tracy's 5003 and though I cannot justify the price inflation, watching the turbine is memorizing. It is an interesting and unique piece. Since only 11 exist outside of the designer's watch, seeing 3 out of 11 in one place is great.

Thanks guys for the pictures and story. Good to see you had a good time. I didn't know there was a Zegg BPPC so I learned something tonight!

Zegg version has grey indices instead of white.

Thanks Alan. In the picture it also looks like the dial of the Zegg version is grey but that could be due to the light?

    Kind regards,

SC, thanks for the pictures. I for one think it's a cool looking watch and having three together is part of the draw of the forum.
