This is a 1950 ish watch that I would like to identify.

It has c88 under the balance.

I’ve trawled the internet but I haven’t been able to find one with same dial and hands.

    Thanks Gerry

Not exactly the same ^, some were simply signed international...all in or around your numbering.

    Thank you for

    this.

I had seen this but dismissed it as it’s fitted with a different cal.

Is this a Hermet watch then, I can see there are differences including the movement cal?

It's perhaps more poignant to establish the style was used ( officially)..cause without that you can easilly end up chasing a nonsense, what case and calibre is somewhat by the by..given the time period Schaffhausen wouldnt be turning down customers requests cause of a two bob dial.

I'm not sure I understand you completely but are you saying they weren't selling too many watches and if a customer requested a one off using existing stock of dials, hands, cases and movements they could buy a bitsa?

I'm saying in 10***** &11***** a lot of people didnt have a lot to eat... by the time they did have enough to get fat these obtuse dials had gone.

Full arabic C.88s devoid of any dial signature also turned up in 10* & 11*...not enough supply of any of em other than the haphazardness of the era to determine.
