I have just added the following 2 watches to my collection. If anyone can provide some further details or history about these watches it would be greatly appreciated. You can see from the photos that both are in need of some work so they will be going off to IWC for a make over (I bet that costs more than the watches did). What are peoples thought on "over capitalising a watch" ie it costs you more to get it fixed up than you could sell it for. (with the first watch I could sell the case to a gold bullion dealer to melt down and still make a small profit) (is that blasphemous?)

Watch one is 14 ct gold 26mm in diameter and 8 mm thick, it was produced in the early 1930's.

Watch 2 is 18ct rose gold C89 with a salmon face, it dates from 1951, it is 35mm wide and 44mm long.

Is either watch particularly rare and worth spending the money on them to restore?

Just a comment for our moderators, Michael I tried posting this new discussion about 7 times and each time it closed the window and looked like it was processing the Post but it never appeared in the forum, I finally got the post to work by splitting it into 2 separate posts, so there must be some sort of limit to the size of the post that you can load. It would be good if the post window could either give you a character count or a warning that you have exceeded the limit. Thank you

I can't answer your watch questions, but there is no limit on characters as far as I know. I have posted with many, many pictures and narratives in the past with no problem. There may be a temporary issue.

Both watches are IWC's of course, which makes them nice watches. But with respect neither is particulalry rare nor in great condition. The second one looks to me like it has a redial based on how "Schaffhausen" is printed.

To get information on these, the best I can easily suggest is
    a) "DateYourIWC" will get you information on calibre and dates from the numbers
    b) "IWC Vintage Catalog Project" will get you catalogs of the era and help with many models, plus schematics of the movements
    c) Searching this forum will get you more detail on the movements
To find the items in quotes, simply Google.

On your posting, I have no idea what occurred at your end but there has been no size limit. Yesterday and today we are installing a Spam filter and you might have gotten caught in the project or a few minutes of installation time --but that's just a guess. In the future, should you have forum non-watch questions or problems (like posting) feel free to e-mail me.

Okay I have been able to get a photo of the case back showing the markings and it is clearly not an IWC case. The marking appears to be the initials "ML" and then if you rotate the photo 180 degrees, the head of a wolf? looking left followed by the number 4. see below photo

You may need to do some more research, and this might be avplace to start:

Could it be the head of a Lynx?
