It was September 19th, 2002 when about 30 collectors who met and discussed
their passion for IWC watches met in Schaffhausen for 3 days. The first
Collector's Meeting was an amazing intinerary of panel presentations,
discussions, old museum tour (remember the old museum in the attic?) food,
drink, factory tours, and comradeship.
this was way back in the day before camera-integrated smartphones. By this
time in 2002 I had only 2 IWCs, having only recently been pulled in by this
community. I still fondly recall so many friends and faces from this time.
My wife, Anastasia made the trip with me - and had a fun time with other
partners of about 5 or 6 other collectors - and IWC even arranged very nice
outings to museums and a Rhein cruise, and luncheons while we were in factory
tours and panel discussions. Our spouses and partners joined us in the
evenings for dinners that went on for hours and hours. Larry Seiden from San
Jose even arranged to connect his flight through Dallas to Zurich, when we
were coming from Orange County> Dallas and we met at the gate and sat across
the aisle for the Zurich leg. I even convinced him we trade watches to wear
on the flight, my GST Perpetual for his 18k Gold Portuguese 2000 cal 5000.
friendships that have lasted all this time. Thank you IWC.
