3712 Stops when using chrono

Hi,
I would like to know your opinion people before sending the watch for repair (something we are always afraid of doing). I have this 3712 which has been kept on a locker for months. About a week ago I started using it again, but realized when using the chrono and the minutes hand is about to move (about 59 secs) it stops the whole watch.

This happen with the watch fully winded and to make it start again, I have to pull the crown out and in.

Do you think that it could be something related to the "inactivity period" of the watch that could solve itself by making it run for a while? Since I been using it, I noticed that I am needing more winding in order to "awake" the watch (seconds hand starts moving).

Hey Martin! something similar happened with my 371709 two days before: I was cooking eggs for breakfast and when I pushed the start button of my chrono the whole movement stopped. Only when I pressed the button again and the 2nd button to set the second hand to zero it continued. Then everything was back to normal - it never happened again although I pushed the startbutton very often after this situation. Is there an explanation for this?

I received a response from de Autorized Service, a complete overhaul is in need. The price is about $750. I would not let any other watchmaker to touch my watch, but actually is a lot of money, considering we are in a country in which the dollar parity is VERY high related to the average wage a worker gets (I wonder if the IWC repairman here would get its salary accordingly).

The cost of ownership is pretty steep in this case.

Which movement is in the StEx chrono?

There are 2 StEx chronos. 3717 has calibre 79320. 3878 has calibre 89361

A little update. After one month in service and $740, the watch is in my hands again. Did a little test starting the chrono, just to realize that the problem is still there (the watch stops after some short time). I can't really believe that they did not do some basic testing before delivering me the watch back.

Very upset, I am returning to the service hoping this time things turns different.
