    Hello,
durring the last weeks I was thinking about selling my old IWC. I hardly every wear it because it is quite small and I am always afraid to damage it.

So I showed some pictures of my watch to someone who is dealing with vintage watches. He told me that the dial is redone and therefore, can't be called completely original. I trust him, still I would will your advice. Do you think the same? If yes, how can you tell? Thank you.

PS: I will have to figure out how to post pictures of my watch ...

The font on the word "Automatic" looks incorrect.

To me the watch dial looks completely original. Very special are the magnificent applied numerals and dots between the numerals. This is only done in high quality dials. The Dauphin hands are also from the era and to me the logo looks all correct.

The dial looks fine. Not redone. The fonts are correct. Actually a beautiful example. The word and typology of "automatic" looks absolutely fine. I like the clean dial without a date on it. I got a similar piece with date.

First let me say thank you to all of you for taking the time to look at it and especially for your answers.

For me, as a complete rookie, is it correct to say that there is one real proof point to say if it is one or the other?

I took the watch meanwhile to an IWC dealer with. This is what their watchmaker said (more or less):

To the fonts are ok, the lume only glows for like one second. Even by using a magnifying lens there are no flaws but the dial is in outstanding condition and this arouses suspicion.

So what to conclude? I don’t know.

My conclusion would be....it's a beautiful watch redial or not.

Wear it, enjoy it....and smile the whole time. It's that nice !

    Daniel,
Go to 'google' and tick IWC cal. 853, images.
You will find several examples with exactly the same logo.
