January 7 marks my 7th Anniversary with this fine forum. It is an opportunity for me to post my appreciation for this community and the IWC “experience.”

As in past years, Ms. D and I were able to travel and meet members of our forum that we had not met. We are now referring to this as “IWC Social Tourism” or Serial GTG's. We did an extensive sweep through W. Europe that first landed us in the Netherlands. Our own Mark L. (8451) and his wife Anne Marie were kind enough to take time out of their busy schedules to show us around.
    [i596.photobucket.com/albums/tt44/ahaujim/A2988613-350E-4E39-901B-75F45D7D83ED_zpse5g6rggd.jpg](s596.photobucket.com/user/ahaujim/media/A2988613-350E-4E39-901B-75F45D7D83ED_zpse5g6rggd.jpg.html)

Mark arranged for a side trip for us to Antwerp where we spent time with our esteemed co-moderator, Tonny, and Captain Vishal (on layover between flights). Mark also facilitated a GTG with Giovanni in Dusseldorf that featured good company, good food and beautiful watches.

After a stop in Perinaldo, Italy to check in on my old running partner, and a trip to Berlin to visit some of Dorothy’s family, we arrived once again in Zurich. It was here that one of D’s Swiss brother-in-laws first turned me on to IWC watches…and marked my descent into the madness of the dreaded “uhrenvirus.” I always wanted Ms. D to visit Schaffhausen, and we were just a 45 minute train ride away. We took to the tracks and were met by the Schaffhausen’s “host with the most,” Tom B. (Sinclair). Tom took us around the city and to IWC. Dorothy loved Schaffhausen and the time spent with Tom. She was ready to relocate (I’m there!).

For those of you lurking or newly joined to the IWC Collectors Forum, this is an exceptional group of folks who are absolutely some the best people with whom I have ever spent time. My experience over the last 7 years has been one of learning and daily joy in sharing this passion. I again thank each of you for making my day-to-day richer!

Jim, first congratulations on your 7th Anniversary. Your sentiments are right-on and express the feeling that all of us who have been around for sometime feel about the very special nature of this Forum. It is here we share our passion and drool over watches we own or would love to own. It is here where we learn and climb the often steep learning curve of Haute Horology and IWC's history and tradition. It is here too where lasting friendships around the world are made and maintained. In my travels to Europe there is always the opportunity to visit with friends both old and new. In NYC at the IWC Flagship Boutique, we meet to have excellent GTGs with guests from around the globe. In Schaffhasuen and Geneve we continue to celebrate together.

I had the distinct privilege to host you and the Devine Ms.D in Philadelphia in 2011 at one of the WatchTime Magazine's Jeff Kingston presentation. Here is a shot of the dinner we shard together one evening.

    i95.photobucket.com/albums/l156/wbarker75/Jeff%20Kingston%202011/L1050739_zps2feapxci.jpg

The Pearsons are front right and my wife and I are at the back left. MF, our esteemed moderator is peeking out in the back right. Kevin Devine, may he RIP, is on the right next between Jeff Kingston and DZUL.

Thanks for sharing your anniversary with us and for expressing so beautifully the feeling we share about this special place. Thanks IWC and Moderators for making this a lasting possibility.

Congratulations on your anniversary, Jim. Getting to know you and Dorothy is certainly one of the highlights of my time in IWCdom. If I recall correctly, we've spent time together in Philadelphia, Austin, and Zurich/Schaffhausen.

I can't help but wonder what goes through people's minds in Schaffhausen when they see someone with an "orange big cow" shirt.

I'll look forward to seeing you and D again. Meantime, best wishes once again on your anniversary.

Congrats on your anniversery and thanks for this lovely post. To me it is always impressive to read about this GTG' or in your words even "IWC Social Tourism" (I like that!,).
I hope I can make it to one of this events in the near future too.
    Thanks for sharing your passion.

    Cheers Chris

Amazing post for an amazing 7 years! Congratulations Jim!

I love your term "IWC Social Tourism" and it's absolutely true! It seems that wherever one travels, there are members of our IWC family ready and willing to meet up for watch talk, food and beer. I have had the pleasure of being hosted by the fine gentlemen of London, New York and Melbourne.

I, in turn, have had the opportunity to meet up with Capt. Vishal, Jarrod and Nad in Toronto. This Forum is fantastic :o)
