Recently I was very happy to buy this cal 28. It is a special one to me since it has a different script on the plate ; here it is like on the cal 22. Other cal 28's have the script on the edge. Also it is a very early one. The first cal 28 had the serial number 100001, this one has 100097.

    Hi Tonny,

Yes the sinuous inscription is found on some of the early cal 28 only. A follow on from the Seelands I guess.

This is the first time that I see 3 cal.28 at the same time, a super collection!
The numbering system of the movements around 1885 is subject to confusion. Most of the movements had 4 or more frequently 5 digits.
Your cal. 28 's have 6 digits and some of the cal. Elgin 111 watches had 7 digits , starting with "20".
The meaning of this was unclear but perhaps does Alan have new insights?
    Kind regards,
    Adrian,
    (alwaysiwc).

Hello Adrian, there was a post some time ago by Watch77 where he had an explanation about the numbering of the older pocketwatches.
