I did my best to delete all copies of that photo in my files.
Not one of IWC's finer moments IMHO.
But like many I do feel that there is an untapped market waiting out there for the right ladies models.

I showed my wife that and she turned her nose up. Did not meet with her approval!
For a ladies watch by IWC it is quite good. I think the shape is a bit too strong, too edgy, too straighforward to be a real ladies watch, but then, there may be ladies who like this. But the shapes of the ladies watches by Cartier and Piaget, even Longines, are sometimes so much more playful, special. For that kind of money you have to go all the way, not altering a men's watch. If you want to make ladies watches, start with a radical new line, with a new, smaller movement family. Give this line a nice, tempting name, like "Notturno della Luna" and start hiring extremely beautiful women in satin dresses for catchy pictures. And hire a marketing man, and a watch designer who really understand women's desires on luxury watches. A lot of effort, the alternative is good too: stay at the men's watch niche, and be happy with the women who happen to like them too.
Kind regards,
Paul
The closest IWC my wife has gotten to liking is the new Portofino Automatic with Milanese mesh bracelet - but still not enough for the trigger to be pulled. I suspect many luxury brands don't go very deep into many production lines for ladies' watches because (i) the product design process can be very different from the men's lines, with minimum economies of scale to reap and design/technology "cross-over pollination" (ii) keeping up with changing fads is a challenge, and (iii) there may not be much of a difference between producing jewellery and watches at the end of the day, which may be seem antithetical to a watchmaker.
Pink's not for me definitely, and ... I think it may have been Paul who said this a while ago .. it ain't easy being green (either).

It's just my opinion and I certainly could be wrong, but any watch adorned with diamonds is a total turnoff. In the magazines or online when I see one I just turn the page or click ahead.
Normally I agree with Alan re diamonds on watches, however my wife wears a JLC Reverso Duetto in steel with bracelet, one side has two lines of diamonds and one side does not. I tried to talk her up to the gold/steel variant but she stuck to steel only. It's a classic look and has the versatility of the two dials. I like it and am happy that I was able to educate her into a mechanical watch rather than one with a battery!
I should have been more specific. I was referring to men's watches.
who needs diamonds on a ladies' wrist ? :-)
Never, never, and never. But this is why we have horse races. Each buyer has different opinions and tastes. But a diamond encrusted men's watch is not for me, ever.
I agree. As said, I thought the old Portofino, the current Portuguese and Da Vinci auto can be very decent watches for women.
I was going to get a previous generation of Portofino auto for my wife as her birthday gift, but she declined. (guess that means I will now have more money to buy watches for myself. hehe).
A watch with diamonds is certainly a no go zone for me but I do have some friends that love their watchesnwith floating diamonds! Everyone to his own but I would rather not wear a watch if I had to carry of diamonds on the watch, there are many other ways people can show off their wealth if they really want to.
Now diamonds on a ladies watch that I do not mind at all, provided it is done in an elegant way I think they look very nice on a ladies wrist. This portuguese I think is marketed towards the ladies watch market and would look really nice on a ladies wrist.
