Today, I was fortunate to be invited at the Royal Palace in Brussels,
    Belgium.

After the speech of the Prime Minister and our King Philip , there was a
    reception with
the King and Queen in a very special hall in the palace.

Some time ago when it needed renovation, the Queen Paola asked an artist, Jan
Fabre to help decorate the hall.

The artist came with a strange idea to cover parts of the ceiling with
    beetles, in total 1.5 million.

Even a chandelier was covered with these beetles.

What better watch to take than the Scarabaeus Fuchs, ref 5420.

A collaboration between IWC and the Austrian artist Prof. Ernst Fuchs .

These pocketwatches were made in gold and in silver.

Not only the case is a piece of art, also the dial, no glass over the dial, is
    very particular.

Here are some pictures of the watch in the setting of the Royal Palace.

Wow what an amazing honour to be invited to the palace.

Perfect choice of watch to bring as well. A fine and rare beauty to match the
    experience.

What a great honour and fantastic timepiece Tonny.

(No beetles were harmed in the making of the watch)

    Hi Tonny,

The next Royal New Year reception should be used by you to talk about IWC with
    the Royal couple.

I am thinking about a Pilot 'top gun' for king Philip and a Portofino with
    diamond bezel for queen Paola.

If prince Laurent is also present , he could do with a 'Jumbo Ingenieur'.

And by the way collectors, to be invited for the Royal New Year reception, one
must be a celebrity, a politician and of great value for Belgium as a country.

It is estimated that 100 Belgian citizens( 0,00000625 per cent) fulfill these
    requirements.

Wow, Tonny, that is amazing! I believe you did pick the perfect watch to
    bring along.

The story about Jan Fabre's decoration ideas with the beetles is strangly
fascinating- I will do some Google research to find out more!

    Thanks for the interesting post.

What a great story - and indeed stunning : 100% the correct watch to take to
    that location.

Very impressive indeed... IWC in attendance with the Royals.
