    Hi All,

I have wanted a IWC for a number of years now and finally too the plunge late last year purchasing a new Portuguese Automatic (5001) in SS / Black - I have been absolutely delighted with it since I got it but have a pretty active lifestyle and decided that rather than wear my Portuguese everyday and risk damaging it, I should purchase another IWC for day to day wear (had to sell it to myself somehow and this helps me sleep at night :) ). I told my self that I wanted to buy something a bit cheaper so I could justify wearing it everyday and not be too concerned about scratches etc, so decided that I should probably get a regular Pilot or a Pilot Chrono. Then I started looking around and thought hmm, maybe I should get a Pilot Laureus or St Expurey - still on the cheaper side but something little different / unique. During my looking around I stumbled across someone selling a good condition almost new Pilot Top GunDouble Chrono (3799) so though what the heck, it is a bit outside of the criteria I had set my self (was about double what I was planning on spending) , so I now the owner of a Portuguese and a Top Gun Double Chrono - both of which I am really happy with.

Just one quick question for those out ehre with a TG Double Chrono - what is the Buckle Tang meant to be made out of and what is the transcription on the underside of yours?

Anyway, just a quick hello and here are a couple of pics of my babies -

    Cheers,

    Ben

    Welcome Ben...

Unfortunately I can't help you on the questions about the Top Gun but I want to say welcome.

You found the best IWC forum in the world and there is plenty to learn here.

About the Top Gun: since it's ceramic, it's much more resistant to scratches than a metal watch so it does suit your goal very well!

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

Another fan of the TG Doppel here....

Welcome Ben. I also really enjoy the sporty nature of the Ceramic TG Doppel. My understanding is that the buckle is titanium and that inscription on the inside of my buckle (actually wearing the watch when i read your post!) is:

    B Swiss
    ACIER INOX

the B is in italic print

Hope this helps and wear your IWCs in good health.

    Acier Inox = Stainless Steel

    Hi Jeff,

Thanks for that, as I purchased the watch second hand there is always the suspicion that it may be a fake, so I have been checking everything on it and am also locked in to see a watch maker next week for a true evaluation - I too thought it was titanium however the words Acier Inox translate to Stainless Steel which had me a little worried however if you say yours is the same then that is comforting :)

    interesting.....

I guess it must be "sandblasted" stainless. there is a deployant buckle like this. Maybe MF can confirm this.
Enjoy and thanks for the information!

I don't believe IWC ever made titanium buckles....

At least the "regular" tang style buckles, and excluding the PD bracelet buckles. I'm not sure about bandblasted steel but some steel ones, if I recall, are matte finished.

    Regards,
    Michael
