As the official partner of the “Plastiki” expedition, IWC Schaffhausen is commemorating the successful mission with an addition to the Ingenieur watch family: a limited special edition of the Ingenieur Automatic Mission Earth Edition “Plastiki”. This watch is homage to the feat of the British adventurer David de Rothschild and his crew, who sailed across the Pacific in 2010 in their pioneering and one-of-a-kind catamaran, the “Plastiki”.

Here's an image of the watch:

    Thanks MF for sharing.

I like the modern looks of this Inge - and the classic rugged features like the soft iron case.

Is that a heart shaped hour Marker above the 12?

    Best regards
    Mark

This certainly is a beautiful watch, that white dial is really nice. It is not the first time an Ingenieur limited edition gets a white dial, making it look special. A few years ago there was a limited Big Inge that one could get when buying a Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG edition IWC, see the picture.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

Is the same one in the 2011-2012 catalogue (announced 2 months ago) or is a 3rd version ?

I believe it is the one in the catalog. Not a third version.

I think it is the one on page 207: same writeup, centerng around David de Rothschild. Interesting, I had no idea when I snapped the pic. Then again, flagship does not accompany writeups with their pics. OK - I am definitely going to try it next visit.

I don't think it is a heart. Probably the number 60 with a hash mark underneath.

While it is beautiful in itself, it is not as striking as the first Plastiki, which highlighted more its limited status.
Doesn't stop me from wanting one though.

I always hesitate when judging a watch purchase from pictures. I know what I like, but usually the watch on the wrist is vastly different from the watch on the display. I gotta try this one on.

Alan, are you sure you want to try that? 3

After all, it's got some significant tone of blue in there! - LOL

    Best regards
    Mark

ps: of course you were correct Alan on that being the number 60 above the 12 hour mark.

I should have seen that - but it's interesting how IWC have changed the dial design here, buy taking away the 100% railway track minute/second markers. Such a small change and it completely makes for a different looking watch. I checked (yes sadly I needed to look) and my most favorite of Inge's (Ref: IW3228-01) pictured here - also does not have 100% rail-track - but neither does it have the second/minute numbering.
