    Dear fellow forumners,

This forum provides me knowledge, technical information, interaction with IWC watch owners, and a platform on which to exchange ideas and solutions.

As others have noted, I, too, continue to be frustrated with problems relating to the slow loading of this forum website. FYI, I have tried accessing the forum through Internet Explorer, Safari, and Firefox. Although initially I blamed at least part of the problem on my old generation Mac I can confirm that I have not much better results with my very latest Mac notebook at home using IE with DSL service provided by Verizon.

I have tried loading with the latest version of Firefox and as "Nad" reported earlier I, too, find the page bleeding with black ink akin to a gallon of black paint spilling over haphazardly on my screen.

Today, I discovered a neat little temporary fix for the slow loading on Internet Explorer.

Richard Sheriden and Cellar have noted the following in an earlier thread:
    https://www.iwc.com/member/forum/display.asp?id=215392

i<The issue is not related to whether you are displaying movies, pictures, or other "heavy content".

It's the way that Internet Explorer chooses to display the "Collector's Forum" data - it waits until the ENTIRE page of the index is loaded into the document before it displays it. That is, IE waits until all the active posts on the forum going all the way back to August, 2009 are loaded.

On the Mac, it displays them as they are loaded - so you will instantly see the first couple hundred entries - and it may actually take an extra 10 seconds to completely load all the forum entries going back to August 2009.>/i<

So, today, as I began loading the forum page I clicked on the "Stop" icon in IE and almost immediately, after a mere 10 seconds, I had about three weeks worth of posts on my desktop. I was then able to click in to any of the appeared messages to read them.

However, since I stopped the full loading I was unable to post a NEW message (including this one) because that function exists only at the end of the full page which never got onto my desktop. So, unfortunately, I had to reload fresh to bring up the entire 2.6MB to give me the opportunity to post.

But I thought I'd share at least my temporary quick fix for reading messages posted. I'd be interested to read if this trick works for others as well.

    Regards,
    Jack Freedman

Nice idea, tech support also is working on this NT

    Exactly, Jack. That is what

I was trying to report in my comment made the other day, though perhaps I did not phrase it well. My experience on IE is exactly the same as yours, including the inability to make a new post after hitting that red X. I have been following this procedure for a while now.

While most of us here are getting by, I share MF's concern that having to wade through multiple screens and then having to wait during loading (until one discovers your trick) may be frustrating away potential newcomers to this site.

It is no longer just an IE and PC issue. ....

For the last two or three days on my MacBook Pro using Safari, the download time to get to the Forum is excessively long I solved the issue, but opening a new tab and reading the NY Times while I wait for the spinning arrow to stop and let me know the download for the Forum is complete.

The time to refresh and get back to the index after viewing a post is also very tedious.

I know the techies must be working on this and I don't want to beat a dead horse. I will patiently wait and read the NY Times several times while surfing the Forum.

Kudos for the fix to multiple photo postings. I am sure I will be using this in the weeks to come.

    Bill,

sorry for preventing you from enjoing the NY Times ,-) : After the index is loaded completely open posts or threads in new tabs by right-clicking them. This way the index must be loaded only once. And while you are following a thread - posting is also possible in the new tab - let the refresh function do its work in the other tab from time to time to display posts that arrived while you have been online.

i have another way to relieve the wait...

simply take your eyes away from the screen and look at the iwc you are wearing. you'll get carried away with the beauty of the dial and when you finally look back at the screen, it will be loaded.
    simples!

I agree - there is a new issue now...

Not saying that it's related, or a root cause - but the performance is acting differently now, after the 10-image enhancement was applied - even for my Mac/Safari browser - which was immune to the dynamic display while loading issue.

    Firefox does it differently

The Firefox Browser loads the page almost immediately after pressing "Return to index". The only drawback. It does not go to the place on the forum main page where I've last been until the page is completely loaded.

So now I decided to stay on the forum main page in tab 1 and open the threads I'm reading in a separate tab. The only drawback on this one: The threads do not get marked as read until the next page reload. But that's the smallest drawback for me. I hope there will be a fix soon. I've read that there are plans for a redisign of the website later.
