I am new to the IWC forum, but been a proud owner of a gold Portofino 353319 since 2007. As many have said in here, once bitten you want to start collecting! After hard saving have just added to my collection with the Portuguese 371401. What a joy it is too, so beautiful and clean in appearance, yet functional and practical. I also saw and was able to handle the Portuguese 500107 - truly remarkable.... but had to ask them to put it back in the show case!! Maybe sometime in the future!! I have taken a photo, but unsure how to load it into the forum as I do not have a web page for photographs - though of course you all know what they look like! Best wishes to all from Birmingham England.... John

Welcome to the Forum and congratulations on your

two IWC's. It is a disease as you noted, but one worth the infection. The 5001 is a classic and iconic IWC which should be in any collection. It has history and tradition written all over it.

    Bill

P.S. As to posting pics, I use Photobucket an online photo server, which is free. After downloading your pics to its server copy and paste the direct link into the Image URL space below the message box. Make sure you delete the http:// from the URL box first, you can,t have it twice as the copy and paste will also bring over the http:// code.

Congratulations John & Welcome to the IWC / CF

Thank you one and all for your kind comments and welcome, and hints as to uploading photos via a web page! I do have photos in Panoramio of my travels, but personal photos not suitable for that web site! Though as you all know what the models look like from this web site and the catalogues it would only be showing you what you already know! However, the Portofino 353319 I have in gold appears to be an older model, as it does not have the swallow tail hands, but straight with square ends, and I think it looks more classic that way, but have not seen any photographs of it ! Best wishes to all.... John

Welcome. Wear your new IWC in good health.

Thank you Jeff, it is good to be part of a "family" of enthusiasts, even if some of us can never aspire to own the most treasured and complex of IWC creations, but it does not stop us from admiring (at a distance!) with envy such amazing works of art! With best wishes John

Thank you all for your welcome and kind words! I think you are right, the collecting urge is a disease, and maybe its carried by the watch and the more you buy the more infectious it becomes!!! I am joking of course. We are all inspired by the quality, workmanship and beauty created by the skilled and miraculous employees of IWC, and, I am sure, in some small way we share their passion, and they feel rewarded by our enthusiasm and joy in their work. We become part of their 'family' as well. With best wishes to all John

Welcome to the forum John, and might I add a great landing here with such a fine beast as the Portuguese 371401.

'A thing of beauty is a joy forever!'

Thanks a lot guys! I am sure you are correct, after No 2 there has to be a No 3!!! Though, sadly not all of us can aspire to such joys - they comes a limit to our financial capabilities....but we can desire and lust after! We are all limited to some extent during our lifetimes, but hope to pass on our passion and hard work in acquiring to others in the future. The Portuguese Chrono with White dial and gold numerals and hands is pure magic.... I have taken photos of both my watches (and for Insurance cover of course) but I do not have a web page of photos to upload them from, just a shame the forum does not have the facility to upload them direct! Though of course you can see what they look like from the online collection! However, I may create a web page from which to do so at a later date, with best wishes and kind regards, John in Birmingham England.
