Today I need to do some advertising for IWC - a truly awesome brand!
A year ago I bought an Ingenieur 3227-01 in memory of my late father, who was
an Ingenieur by profession.
As the caseback is perfect for an engraving, I thought about what to engrave.
His name? His birthday or even the day of death? Some nice words? What font?
What size? I was not sure at all and I did not want to rush this decision as
the watch should become a family heirloom.
At some stage I remembered the nice caseback engravings of Darwin and Cousteau
on some IWC watches and was wondering if IWC would do an individual engraving
of a picture of my dad.
I was lucky enough to meet Stephanie Homberger a bit later at the BBAMSGTG so
I gave it a try.
What should I say?! Stephanie and everybody at IWC went above and beyond to
make this happen, from the graphic designer up to some department managers -
everyone was very enthusiastic and supportive.
It took some time, to get the picture converted into an engraving-file and to
complete the engraving, but the result worth the wait. When I had the watch in
my hand and saw the engraving of my father, I was overwhelmed, speechless and
got goosebumps - I still do when I look at it or think about it.
Not to mention that IWC makes the best caseback engravings in the whole watch
industry!
Thanks again everyone at IWC for making this happen! You guys are just
unbelievable awesome!
