Would love your expertise and guidance. I'd really like to purchase my other half a vintage IWC for a wedding present. He's always admired the watches, but at the moment, purchasing a new one is a bit out of reach. I don't want to spend more than £1,500 and had hoped that some of you would be able to help me out. I have seen this one on ebay, but not really sure if it is worth the asking price.

I have also seen some of the marriage watches, which are a nice idea, but I would rather go with an actual wrist watch.
    Can anyone help me out?
Thank you so very much for your time

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your wedding. I think a vintage IWC is a great idea. You should be able to get that within your budget. The watch you have linked to is a good example of what you should look for IMHO. There are several other possibilities out there but stay away from the so-called "marriage watches". They are generally of no interest to collectors and therefore command low resale prices. Stick to an actual wrist watch and be aware that most vintage watches are small compared to todays taste (less than 36 mm). Good luck!

You have come to the right place for advice on buying a vintage IWC.
The model you should look for and is within your budget would be a Stainless Steel Cal 89 or 88. Maybe you can get lucky and find a gold one, but those go for a little more.

The example you have found is not recommended as the dial has been repainted black. Try find one with its original dial intact.

When asking about other watches you find, please save the pictures and post to the Forum. We are not allowed to link to for sale sites.

Good luck on your search and we will be happy to comment on any pics you post.

The two watches that you have requested opinions on are both "over processed", by which I mean they have been polished, and the dials may have been refinished. These are clear negatives to seasoned collectors, and may imply further problems, as well.

Dealers typically polish cases and refinish dials so that they look good to the uninitiated.

    Regards,

    Tony C.

A bit late to the party, but the first one - I would avoid that seller.
He has a bad reputation in the vintage Heuer community for redials/frankenwatches...
