I have seen a few different dials on the 812 (cal 8541)
However, I seldom see white dials. The dial below is different from the black dials I see, lacking the AQUATIMER text above AUTOMATIC in the 6 o'clock position. Does anywhere here know if this is an original untouched dial?

And a couple more if anyone knows...
what the selection of different white dials looked like on the 812? Same for the black? And even estimated production levels?

    (what a price - ouch!)

Thanks every one for the help!

No one here can tell you whether the dial is original to that particular, watch, however it is a genuine, albeit uncommon variation. In other words, it is correct for the model, and certainly appears to be untouched.

Your questions about dial variations can be answered by doing some searches for the model. Productions numbers are unlikely to be known by members of the forum, as they are never released publicly by IWC.

    Regards,

    Tony C.

    Thank you Tony-
    Do you know if:
    - all of the white dials did not have AQUATIMER written on them? I can't seem to find another white example.
    - All of the black ones have AQUATIMER and also IWC at the top?

    THank you

Hi. I've seen that watch up close and personal. The dial is a poor repaint.

Oops! I apologize, and defer to Antonio.

Though the dial design is seen with the light bezel on occasion.

My written words appear blunter than intended. It was not my intention to be so blunt.
You are correct Tony, the white dial and bezel version of the Ref 812 Aquatimer does in fact exist, and the dial in that watch, aside from the absence of the word AQUATIMER would be otherwise correct.
I was offered that watch before it was sold to Germany and declined on the grounds that it was a poor repaint and that the bracelet was not specific for the Aquatimer, as the terminals are not flush with the case between the lugs.

Thank you, I much appreciate it. It does look like the word watch and AUTOMATIC have issues (at least judging from these few pictures).

Should these white dials have the AQUATIMER and IWC text as well, like I see on the black dials? Or would they appear just like this example?

I have tried to find photo examples of the white dial online, but am not having any luck. Have found one blurry image to date only.

It is now for sale in Italy and without a complete dial, in the pictures it show the date ring ??? Maybe the seller reads this forum ;-))

No problem at all, Antonio. I simply didn't look closely enough at the photo, though of course it is always an advantage to inspect dials in person.

    Cheers,

    Tony C.
