Would you trade your most rare and prized vintage IWCs for one Destriero Scafusia?

    Yes I would ....without remorses

Il Destriero is a living legend.
In any case, (wear it or not), I WOULD!!!!

Ouch - I'd lose nights of sleep on this one, but

I do believe that in the end I would do so - that is such a special watch, that it defies any logic one could bring forth, not to have and WEAR - such an example of horology!

    Yes, I would wear it...

I wear all my watches, with some having more wrist (or pocket) hours than others. Different occasions or activities for each watch.

    depends what your trading...

there are prize watches out there that i would love, but whether i would love them more than some in my current collection is the real question.
tell us what you're thinking of trading.

    I was hoping to avoid...

answering that question, relevant as it is. First because I am far from deciding and because that list could be construed as a lame sales attempt, which it is not.
Let me just say that I would have to part with my best 8 to 10 vintage IWCs. I would still keep the Jubilee, the Mark 11, the CFI, and the CF da Vinci, whenever she decides to knock at my door.

    That's a tough one...

one because you have some wonderful watches. I understand the significance of the Destriero Scafusia and its position within the IWC world of horology...but I would be dearth to part with pieces I collected that I still have a strong attachment. I can only empathize with your deliberations rather than offer advice. Still, it is a great circumstance to have to deliberate.

    Best regards,
    Jim

    Definitively not.

8 (great pieces) just for one is an unbalanced trade.

Each piece is a witness of one of the higest moments in IWC' s manufacture.

Destriero is a tour de force, technically speaking, but, I have some "but"...

    My two (scared) cents.

P.S. I do sincerely hope you're not seriously considering the option to get rid of THE watch.

I knew you would say that...:-)

The Destriero has always been my Grail, along with the first Portugieser Minute Repeater, but was definitely out of reach.
    0r so I thought.
Suddenly, out of the blue, it appears within reach, if - very big if - I change radically the scope and direction of my IWC collection. Not an easy thing to do.
Yes, I would have to part with THE watch. That will not be easy, and is a strong reason to keep things as they are.

    No

I would like to have diversity in my collection, certainly if the collection is a very nice one. I would maybe buy a very beautiful and expensive watch if I could afford it without too many sacrifices. After all, it is just a watch, not a life saving kidney.

    Kind regards,
Paul, wearing my yellow gold Portuguese Perpetual Calendar, its only sacrifice was a downer in my bank account

LOL paul... i know the big D had lots...

of complications but replacement kidney i'm sure wasn't one of them.

it would be a beast of a watch to own but as paul says, maybe your cutting off your arm to get it?

this is a great thread tony!
it will be interesting to see what other opinions come in.

The grail watch always presents a....

problem because you will consider options which you would otherwise dismiss out of hand. If it was me I would not make this transaction. Losing one or two vintage watches might be acceptable. But eight? I don't think I would be very happy with that.
Just the fact that you are seriously considering it demonstrates how the grail could corrupt.

Good luck with whatever decision you make.
