    Hello,

I just bought my first IWC (a portofino chronograph) and very nice it is too!

However, I was surprised to find that after setting it the date happily changes at 12am but the day doesn't tick over until 6am...

Not knowing much about real watches I wondered if this were normal and if one of the gurus here could put my mind at ease?

If it's normal, what's the rationale behind it?

    Thanks in advance,

    Nick

They should change within minutes if not seconds of each other.
Pull the crown out to position 2 - the time setting position and manually advance the time 24 hours a few times to see if the day and date sync up. If not you need to take the watch back.

Did you use the quick date set (position 1) between the prohibited time of 9pm and 2am?

    Wow - that's a really disappointing answer.

I bought it at an airport, so not sure how I'm going to bring it back...

I read the manual, so when setting it was careful of the times. There were a couple shop assistants who didn't seem to know their stuff that well, so when they set it for me they may have done.

It keeps time very well otherwise. Any advice on how badly damaged it may be or what to do would be most welcome.

    Thanks in advance,

    Nick

P.s. I followed your advice and wound it forward a number of times - day advances at 6:10am on the dot each time.

Take it in, with your warranty card to any IWC Authorised Dealer. You can search them by country by using the RETAIL & SERVICE tab at the top of the page.
