This week, a new member of the collection arrived. Since some time, I was looking to add a Pallweber to the collection.
It arrived and it is amazing. Runs great for its age ( 1888 ), it looses 1 min a day. I love the condition of the case too, I am Lucky to have found it, or it found me ;)

Congrats Tonny. A pallweber is a great piece. I once had the pleasure of seeing live the digits jumping and it is simply very special.

A very nice example in excellent condition --congrats!

Just curious --is it really dated 1888? That would be a few years later than most IWC Pallweber production, which to me would be unusual and therefore interesting.

    Hello Michael, thank you.
The seller told me 1888 and I hadn't the time to look deeper into this.
Now I did a bit of research today. The cal nr. is 1617x. Date your IWC places that in the year 1886. In the book written by Tölke and King, you can read that the batch 15701-17200 was produced in 1886. According to R.Meis ( book p. 163 ) in 1888, there was a production of Pallweber movements ( 1500 pieces ).
When you look into the archives, the date of sales were sometimes not quite logical compared to the production numbers.
Cal nr. 15732 was sold 2nd July 1886, cal nr. 14549 was sold 30th October 1886 and cal nr. 16109 was only sold 8th March 1888.
I think you are right to say the production was not in 1888, should be 1886.
Maybe it stayed on the shelves for some time before being sold.

Very interesting piece regarding the fact that it is a Pallweber IIIA movement with a dial that bears a typical Pallweber I and II indicator window for the minutes and Pallweber IIIA hour-window. What a pity that the dial has damage (hairline)at the dial foot just like in case of most of the Pallwebers. Take care of it.

    Hi Tonny,
It is very hard to find a "decent" IWC Palweber.
Almost always the dials are broken, cracked or splittered.
This one , with one hairline, is more than decent.
The balance has no screws and therefore the accuracy is a bit less.
So 1 minute difference in 24 hrs means for me : "Pallweber III chronometer".
    Kind regards,
    Adrian,
    (alwaysiwc).

    Tonny,

Don't be afraid, the balance has crews otherwise the difference would be extrem not only 1minute/day. And in case it hadn't had screws or had even 1 missing screw it would have been faster and not slower than the accurate time cause the oscillation of the balance would be faster and the angle would be smaller. Your movement seems to be percect.
(Andrian just can't see the screws because the balance wheel was swinging while the picture was taken)
