But why is it that
I have no trouble or long loading times on any other sites? Some (like Realtor.com) have even more content and tons of bandwidth hogging photos.

Same here. nt.
Here's an explanation - may be off-topic...
I am not an engineer, nor have a concrete answer - but I have a guess.
The issue is in Microsoft Internet Explorer and how it's architected implementation of the "document object model", or DOM.
That is why the Mac users are not reporting the same issue - and I experience the problem when using Intenet Explorer from the SAME internet connection at home on a PC.
The issue is not related to whether you are displaying movies, pictures, or other "heavy content".
It's the way that Internet Explorer chooses to display the "Collector's Forum" data - it waits until the ENTIRE page of the index is loaded into the document before it displays it. That is, IE waits until all the active posts on the forum going all the way back to August, 2009 are loaded.
On the Mac, it displays them as they are loaded - so you will instantly see the first couple hundred entries - and it may actually take an extra 10 seconds to completely load all the forum entries going back to August 2009.
I don't want to turn this into a Mac versus PC issue - but this seems to me to be a "x" in the "Pro Mac" column.
Yes - Just read your post after I posted mine...
That is the issue - IE Waits for ALL of the active posts to be loaded before it displays them.
On the Mac, it displays them as they are loaded - and since you really only care about the last few weeks of posts - it appears to load instantly, when in fact, it will still take 10 seconds for you to be able to scroll down through 3, 4, or 5 months worth of posts...
Firefox
Firefox displays the page as it loads and I can open the new posts within seconds while the "Collector's Forum" page loads to completion.
I'm not on a Microsoft or Mac operating system but a Centos (Linux) operating system.
It does need to be looked at by the IWC techs because loading the page has slowed down.
Cheers from the cellar
Firefox on Windows Vista...
It does show the posts right away but it's hard to scroll down, since it is building up the huge page. I used HTTP-Fox, a plugin for Firefox and that shows the page is 2.6 MBytes in size, all text that has to be processed by the stylesheet and some javascript.
Kind regards,
Clemens
I think Richard has hit upon the problem
Do we need to load posts all the way back to August 2009? This probably accounts for the bulk of the 2.6Mb file size.
It would be better that the last four to six weeks were available in the current view and the rest scrolled off into the archive.
Just a thought.
Cheers from the cellar
Hi Richard, I understand what you are saying, >
but the slowness for me is something of very recent origin. Perhaps this issue is something in a recent update?
Thanks for your efforts!
