Since the new Big Pilot's LPP Ref. 501002 is simply a movement upgrade from Ref. 500916, which makes me wanting this watch even more, when I go to a shop, how do I know it's really the 501002, not the 500916? Are there any apparent differences between the two that one can spot without opening the case back?

Guess there is a little trust needed. Just ask your AD what reference they have in store.
Also the reference number will be on the warranty card - so thats another way to check it.

Beside of that I think there is no other way. But I´m kinda new to the watch game.

    Best regards

Thanks for the reply. I would have no problem trusting an AD when buying brand new, but I was thinking a couple years down the road when some pre-owned 501002's become available. If there is no apparent different on the outside, I would have to trust the warranty card. But since it appears there is a serial number on the case back, shouldn't there be a way to trace that number somehow? Like, serial numbers begin with such as such numbers would indicate 501002 or something like that?

There is only one absolutely safe way to check this out: you have to unscrew the case back. On the inside the reference number is engraved and you obviously can take a look at the movement itself. Other than that you might have to trust the seller, which is not always easy in the days of false warranty cards etc. So the golden rule comes into play once again: buy the seller, not the watch.

But besides that, the 5009 is a top notch watch either. Chosing between the 5010 and the 5009 there is zero potential for buying a lemon. :-)

Good luck and please post pics when this dream watch is on your wrist.
