    Hi guys,

stumbeled across these aquATimer after seeing one on the wrist of a fellow.

AT first I thought it was a fake.. A very good one indeed. But after having
examined it, it was the real thing.

black venom (so there website states) uses a molecular coating with very high
potential, born in the military field and then used with extreme success in
other areas. An example can be Formula 1 piston rods, to which the treatment
is applied in order to contain the friction coefficient, with a reduced fuel
expense. Venom's slogan: 'FROM FORMULA 1 TO TIME MARKERS' states that they
use the secret formula of DLC.

DLC increases wear resistance and component life, while reducing maintenance
requirements. Thanks to its composition it molds a real shell, capable of
withstanding scratches and bumps up to 7-8 times more than steel.

but whAT do we think of these wATches (......). Are they FrankenwATches in
your opinion, or are they beatifull (..) or should we stick to the originals..

I'm interested to read your remarks. Here the pics:

    let
me know whAT you all think about these..

All that glistens is not gold!

No matter how good that looks (and Mark thinks it dazzles!), the fact remains
(or is it a question) that Schaffhauser will neither honor a warranty on these
watches nor work on them should you need a repair.

    Risky no?

Hi Bas, they look really nice! My principal issue would be not so much the
case/bracelet coating (assuming it's durable) but the dials are not-original,
    right?
That to me is one bridge too far.... So I don't consider it a 'Franken
Watch' but it just is not original enough anymore for me to be a 'real'
    IWC....

    Groet, Bob

PS: and that " DLC increases wear resistance and component life, while
    reducing maintenance requirements
" is utter crap! They coat the
outside of the watch but I can 't believe (and hope) they treat the
movement! So what's that quote supposed to mean, in terms of maintenance etc.?
It would be rediculous and illogical if they do the movement and, if so, that
would be a reason to never buy it!

No matter the hardness or thickness of the coating, it is a surface treatment.
Now I'm sure we all are quite aware of our precious (expensive) wrist
adornments and would never expose them to harm, but what if by some bad luck
the watch saved us from injury to our arm but gouged the watch case? It cannot
be restored! This is one of the reasons IWC stopped the black coating of their
Porsche Design Ocean 2000. IWC realised folks purchased IWC watches with the
intent of having them for a long time, but there was no way IWC could repair
the case or bracelet once the coating gave way to the metal beneath it.

Your money, your watch and all that...but I would shy away from such a watch,
not only for the reason I noted above, but for the other reasons mentioned
above by others. I say stick to OEM IWC. As attractive as the Venom watches
are, the AT is attractive on its own merits straight from the factory!
