I've been fascinated by mechanical watches most of my life and, until recently, relied on a Tissot automatic. Somehow, on my way to getting it serviced, I found myself buying my first IWA, a 34mm Portofino. It was new, old stock and in perfect condition with box and papers. Judging by its case number (2820914), it's from late in the production run (2003/4?). Anyway, the point of this post is to express my astonishment at the accuracy of this watch. In the first week of wearing it, time is within +/- 1 Sec each day. Are all IWC watches this good?

Hello Chris and welcome to the forum. Congrats on your first IWC. For sure, once you have bought one, many more will follow ;)
IWC watches are accurate, a +/- 1 Sec a day is really good, most of mine are close to that.

Thanks for the information Tonny. I am truly impressed. I think that my (relatively cheap) Tissot had an ETA stock movement, but the accuracy of the Portofino is something else. It's also commendably small..... As watches have got bigger, I've found it hand to find anything that feels/looks right on my wrist.

Congratulations on your first IWC and welcome to the forum! Now don't get spoiled by that astonishing accuracy because it is not the norm (at least not for me). COSC, an independent agency that certifies only 3% of Swiss watches to meet high accuracy standards allows for a 10 second deviation per day (-4/+6, which is an accuracy rate of 99.994%) so 1 second off is tremendous. I believe IWC would like to see their watches run at 0/+7 seconds per day (better to be early than late). That being said, I, too, have been astonished with the accuracy of some of my IWCs.

1 second a day is good. One of my most affordable IWC timepieces (the MK Xvi, runs still after many years at that same accuracy (although most of my other IWC are running in the 5-10 seconds a day accuracy range (which still works fine for me.

i actually meant 1 second in that whole week, not per day!
    it is astonishing.

i do wear it everyday, not sure if that helps with gravitational pull or whatever affects the accuracy.

That is excellent and exemplifies the performance that this single-barrel, seven day movement is capable of. It seems it was regulated just for you;)

Hello all. Earlier this year I decided to purchase a new IWC Potofino 8 day. Got to say i'm delighted with its looks and design. However i'm a little disappointed with accuracy. I've been spoilt with my Rolex GMT which remains accurate to the minute for well over a month with only a couple of seconds variance a day. However my Portofino 8 day is running around +18 seconds fast per 24 hours. In other words a minute fast after less than 4 days. Any indication what I should be expecting from this manual movement is much appreciated. Thanks

    Hello,
I am also new to the forum. Bought a brand new Portugieser Chronograph Automatic in October. It goes fast approx. 7 secs per day and would like to now from the experts around here whether this is normal and acceptable.
    Thanks for any feedback.

IWC's specifications are for 0 to +8 seconds per day. Pretty amazing for a mechanical watch.

My 20 year old Portofino Automatic IW351311 is currently running approx -2 seconds a day but I am having tremendous problems with it becoming easily magnetized, when it can jump to +30 seconds a day. It has taken me a year to identify this as the problem - finally confirmed by the IWC engineer in London who rubbed my watch across his phone whereupon it ran 30 seconds fast, demagnetised it and it ran on time. I have invested in a good quality demagnetiser and am monitoring the situation! Modern life is full of powerful magnets, my IPAD case has been banished and I am careful with what goes on my bedside table.

my big pilot has gained a total of 24 seconds since synchronizing it in late November.
    pretty incredible!

magnetizing is obviously not an issue for the pilot's watches with its
    soft iron casing :)

I own a IWC aquatimer automatic number 3938723.
I did have some problems with this watch bracelet, and this is in fact a second watch that was supplied under the warranty by IWC.
The new watch does have a problem of precision, it can speed up about 3 minutes a day.
Anything i should do to improve this, or the only remedy is to take it back to the agent?

    Regards
    José
