Today I went with my siblings to the "Glacier d'Aletsch".
For those who are not familiar with this famous glacier, let me give you some informations about it:
-location: Valais (this is one "canton" located in the south of Switzerland)
    -length: 24km long
    -surface: 96km2
-mass: 27mia of tons of ice
-the biggest glacier in the Alps
-it started to melt around 1870 (which is quite late, and its melting was constant from that time to nowadays.
    -UNESCO classified since 2001
Enough, I let you admire the Swiss Alps now!

If you want to see it, there are plenty possibilities. As walking from the telecabin station to see the glacier was too easy for us, we decided to have a 6h walk. I regret having taken this silly decision :-), but no regrets about the landscape!

Lovely place in a beautiful country which is my winter playground. I have seen over the last decade the loss glacial of ice / snow in Zermatt. My guess is the glaciers there 30% or more smaller than when I first visited.

    Nice pics and IWC.

Thank you Guillaume for the wonderful pictures and the beautiful watch. I guess the 6 hour walk made you feel good afterwards, didn't it?

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

Thanks to all for your kind comments.
Jeronimo, your panorama looks quite good too, esp. with that cool AT :-)

Here is already another shot! Some others will follow today.

The temperature was just right this friday, with a little breeze. I hope it will help the US citizens to cool down, as I heard the temperatures were quite high these days for you!

The 6h walk is usually ok for me, but I got hurt to my left knee in the middle of the walk and the rest was quite painful.

But you can go with the telepheric and be there in less than one hour.

It seems that someone up there is planning to start a fire. For the federal holiday (1st of August)

Indeed! If you have ever been there, you might recall the particular odour of the pine trees...

What beautiful and cool looking landscapes. After a week of 38C+ temperatures, the pics are a visual refresher. I visited just east of where the photos were taken and would love to return some day. The AT looks just right for the occasion!
