    Hello all,

First of all I'm completely new here and also a watch novice so apologies if this is in the wrong place. I recently bought a piece at a very reasonable price (I won't disclose how much) as the owner was unsure of authenticity. There were no papers accompanying the piece. I was wondering if the experts here would be able to help out? Pictures attached

    Many thanks in advance!

Whatever you paid was too much!
If the owner is unsure of authenticity - well that is not a good sign....

The wording ”DUAL-WINDING BOX”  In the first picture is just one clue!

Horrible dial quality, horrible case quality, cheap, crude gears in the movement, the beforementioned misspelling on the caseback, the crude printing on the watch, the cheap, crude crown are just a few pieces of evidence.

Then there’s the Tourbillon That Isn’t, and a variation of the Portofino that never existed, and if it did, it would look different.

I’m not an expert, but this watch screamed ‘fake’ before I had even really registered the first picture.

I keep an eye on what is going on in the fake world. Some of them look pretty good. This is not one of them.

    Steven

Welcome to the forum, but you shouldnt be buying things like this if you are really interested in watchmaking and owning nice products from IWC.
If you need to get some information about IWC watches there is so much online and if you live in a city you may be able to visit a watch dealer and learn more and see what skilled craftmanship can produce. Trying to get a good (cheap) deal doesnt really exist.

You should take this watch back to the owner and get your money back. If its not possible then you should destroy it since its a counterfeit watch and may be some legal implications. Sorry that you have had this bad experience but I hope one day you can own a true masterpiece from IWC Schaffhausen. Start here on the webpage to learn more....

Ok, Putting my tinfoil hat on here...
New user, one post, no reply... the usual "I'm new to watches but is this fake?" line... smells like a possible counterfiter checking his work with the experts.
These kinds of posts are so common on WUS and TZ... it's scary. I bet this piece will resurface in a few months and the spelling mistakes and quality would have been fixed or improved.

It's a dangerous world out there...

Spelling mistakes on the movement and mistakes on the dial do not mean an IWC is a fake.

However, this one is a genuine 25 carrot fake.
