Is it me, or the depth and beauty of black/gray anthracite dial of the Ref 866 Ingenieur is "impossible" to capture?
I included the blue dial just for contrast.

Black is difficult for any watch
Watch photography is difficult, period. Some of us are masters, magicians, sorcerers, making those watches sometimes look even better than they really are.
But I enjoy almost all pictures as I can imagine the beauty of the watch and the joy of the owner.
Kind regards,
Paul, wearing steel VC Pilot's watch
"Black & Blue" takes on a different meaning here!

It appears easy for "cyberlawprof", though (nt)
Nonetheless your skepticism, I can see some magic
in the dial on the right.
You're not so bad as photographer and the beauty of the watch overcomes any pictorial limit.
This is the truth, to my eyes, even just looking at your picture, I prefer the black dial rather than the blue one (splendid as well).
I just can imagine how beautiful it could appear at "full power".
Regards,
roberto
'Sunray' dials are spectacular, but the black is..
...stunning too!
Thanks for sharing,

You are way too kind, as usual...
I tried all day in all kinds of positions and light conditions. The dial has a "depth" and color nuances that are impossible to capture. It is black anthracite from one angle, soft ardoise-like gray from another, and from another actually glitters.
I had no plans to buy another Ref 866, but this is one came out of nowhere, and was just too good to let go.
Happy Easter.
