My opinion only - the wrist pic / top pic looks like it has gold hands. So in my opinion both watches are the same.

The 3714 was my first IWC. I had some problems with the push pieces on the chronograph that apparently have been rectified since the 2004 version. Also, as a physician, I like having the date on my watch as a quick reference. So, I went on to buy a ref. 5001 and most recently the ref. 3902 in the Portuguese line. I love them both for different reasons. But every time I see someone wearing the 3714 I realize it is just a classic and I really miss it! Beautiful watch. Enjoy!

I just love the portuguese chronographs. I have mine for more than 10 years now, it was a matter of love at first sight. And I am still loving it.
    Enjoy yours: it's a beauty !

Of course it's stunning....but more important it's destined to be an IWC "classic"., if not already

    Congratulations on a beautiful acquisition

    Andy,

the movement you mention is time-only. Cal 79350 is actually a Valjoux 7750 with proprietary module for counters diposition 12-6.

    Hope this helps :)

I don't understand the movement of the 3714? Can someone explain?
It's a valjoux 7750 but mostly I see are chronographs with date function? So what do we have? we have no date and only 2 subdials positioned at 12 and 6. So is this actually a valjoux 7750 but heavily modified for the portuguese 3714? Does it make it different from the other 7750's?

    Roberto,

Thanks for the reply. I don't know what I was thinking at the time. I meant to say " Is the movement a 7750?". I just acquired a 3717 Chrono and knew it was a Valjoux and wanted to know if it was the same for the 3714. I also have a Mark XVI and a AT2000 which uses the 2892-A2, so that must have been on my brain.

I really like the 3714 and look forward to trying it on. My AD is out of stock right now but will call me when it comes in. Although it measures 40.9mm,he says it wears bigger because it's "all face".

Do you or anyone have any thoughts on this?

    Again...thanks for the clarification.

    Andy

    Hi,

    Actually your statements are correct.

The hour counter hand has been taken off while the second wheel is smaller than the ordinary one, seen inside the 7750, without the pivot for the second hand.

Below the dial there’s a bridge with a wheel train (3 wheels with the last armed with a spring) to avoid oscillations to the second hand, due to the attrition of the 3 wheels.

Finally, a plate is put under the dial to gain the same height of the bridge.

A picture is worth hundred words:

Andy, you’re definitely welcome. I agree with your AD, the carrure of ref. 3714 is very simple, kind of a cylinder. The case-back, slightly convex helps the watch to be easily wearable, nonetheless the considerable measures of the watch and more, the bezel is much larger than the carrure, giving the impression the watch to look bigger than really is. It’s well conceived, being essential and simple but aesthetically very impressive, the play between brushed and polished metal parts does the rest.

It’s a terrific looking watch, the dial then is superb. I’d love to see this watch with in-house movement, keeping the same dimensions, I could get rid of most of my watches, being more than sure, a watch like this would keep most of the wrist time.

It’s an icon, I will always be in love with this watch.
