Just out of the safe for some fresh photos, after many years into the bank
    safe.

It is a strange watch, with a very rare IWC movement, the cal. 983.

The diameter is 53 mm, similar IWC cases have 49 mm in diameter.

But this one has a 14 carat gold case, not 18 carat gold as similar IWC
    models.

Some years ago, I was thinking about selling it, but I will keep it in
collection, because it is a 92 gramm beauty and I like that Fibonacci design
    very much.

    Thanks Mark.

Year of produktion: I have got some details from Mr. Klaus on the caliber 983
some years ago, but cant find it currently, sorry.

So, just from my mind, late 70s - early 80s ?!

Well, tasts are changing during the years and the taste for this watch has
rised. From todays view no thoughts about selling this rarety anymore.

    @Tonny

Thanks for shwowing the silver variant, Tonny.

Just a hint, the cal. mounting screws are missing.
That could occure a fracture of the winding screw ?!

    Regards

Thanks to all for participating this BERGLAND thread.

The difference between the cal. 9x2 and cal. 9x3 is limited to the balance,
cal. 9x2 with screw balance, cal. 9x3 balance without screws the
simplification of the regulation system and no Breguet spiral.

If anyone can estimate what was actually saved by this change, please let me
know, because I have absolutely no idea about it ?!

    Hi Heiko,

About the differences between balance and balance spring.

It is difficult to determine the difference in terms of money : no idea.

In terms of accuracy : a balance with balance screws (often gold) can be
regulated more accurate than a flat balance wheel.

The material and helical structure of a Breguet balance spring are more
accurate and less sensitive for temperature changes than the 'normal' balance
    spring.

So, generally speaking, the original IWC should be more precise than the
modified Bergland movement. But how much is that effect?. I am sure that there
are examples of the Bergland which are more accurate than some original
    movements.

I am also sure that you know all about what I am writing(=:

    Regards,

    Adrian,

    Thanks Adrian,

I have just got some details about this topic from Richard Habring , which
may also be interesting for you.

I would estimate that this was ultimately a good CHF 150/200 saving on the
    factory 's production costs.
The KIF is a standardized regulating system that was (and will be) made with
    existing tools.
At that time it cost just a few francs apiece.
The adjustment to the respective caliber is made only by the bridge-side shock
protection, the adjustment for the respective spiral size (which in turn
depends on the size of the balance) is made through the hole for the spiral
stud and its distance to the center.

Consider that at that time all of our own calibres were equipped with
Breguet hairspring. Had you wanted to make the conversion internally would
have been your own punching tool for a R ucker for the flat spiral due, wire
erosion or laser cutting was then not yet. The tooling costs have been saved
    simply by assembling the Spirofin.

The biggest savings came from the flat spiral, which was simply installed
and straightened, while the Breguet spiral had to be "laid out" a bit more
    complex.

    Regards

    Heiko

Heiko, a more perfect answer from a world known expert as Richard Habring is
    not possible.
