    Hi all,

just to share a previous experience as a learning point to all of us. I recently bought an IWC Aquatimer (see pic for model) from a 'reputable' watch dealer in Funan Center, Singapore.

As it was pre-owned, I was skeptical but was assured multiple times the watch is in perfect condition. After I bought it (not a huge discount I got also), the calender dial got jammed within a monthand when I sent it in to IWC for servicing - it was told to me the mechanism was mishandled and in very poor condition, I had to pay SGD600 as the shop insisted on a buyers-beware policy and they were not responsible once the watch leaves the shop. In short, its really true - its always better to buy from the boutique unless you're looking for a rare boutique sold out model like me.

I'm no hero, I like my watches brand new

There are no guarantees in life, even a brand new watch may have been dropped. But there comes the absolutely first class AD into play. Your story strengthens me in my policy, thank you very much.

    Kind regards,
Paul, wearing steel VC Portuguese, once brand new for me

    Too bad to hear that...

I know what you mean, I bought my Ingenieur 3227 used too and after a month or so, I wasn't comfortable with the harsh winding. I had my AD send it to IWC and the watch needed a full overhaul and a new dial. This certainly made the deal much less advantageous. Just for the record, I did not buy the watch at that AD.

The other watch I bought used was the Aquatimer Split Minute and this one is still working as supposed, even though it looses a few seconds per day but I can live with that. I did have it checked for water resistance before taking it to the pool though. For the Split Minute, buying used was the only option since it's a discontinued model.

I hope you get your watch back soon and in perfect working order. After a thorough repair, I am sure it will serve you well for a long time.

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

Hi Paul, no doubts you're right =) But this is one problem that I do face when buying certain models that are out of production or simply sold out. which was what happened in this case. Will make an effort to ensure the sellers send the watch for maintenance servicing and show me proof if this situation appears in future!
