Big Pilot / 3799 Straps

Hi All,

This is a quick request for images, not images of my own.

The strap on my 3799 is getting pretty tired and I have a MK XI coming back from a service mid November (has been gone since July, so hopefully they are spot on with the mid November timeline as has been a long anxious wait so far) which I am using as an excuse to get a new strap for the 3799 - figure whilst I am picking up the MK XI might as well buy a new strap :)

Anyhow, I am most likely going to move away from the nylon original strap and go for a Big Pilot strap (both watches share the 22mm strap size) but am not sure which colour I am going to go for and am hoping those out there could post some shots of their BP straps and in particular those with 3799 (or any of the special variants of the case like the Carlson, 3786, Z&C etc) with the BP based straps and even more particular - the IWA05710 - the steel blue BP Strap.

Have you had the blue strap on the 3799?

I am leaning towards the dark brown / red brown aligator strap but not sure how it wil go on the black watch, looking at your pics I wouldn't be unhappy with the black though.

I had indeed tried the blue alligator on the 3799 - the boutique staff was kind enough to change it just to show me - but it looked at that time really odd, but again it could just be me. and Yes I really should have taken a pic. i did not like the very sharp blue contrast with the whole dial, sharply divergent with the charcoal-black dial and red accents.

my big weakness - I love thick leather on my wrist :) the BP alligator strap varies from just under 6mm to 2mm I believe, from lugs to buckle/tail.

dark brown/red brown would be interesting combinations, wld be interesting to see. I am of the opinion this is not an easy watch to accessorize/switch strap colors.

Hi All,

I was down at Richemont today to pick up my Mark XI from its long trip for a service and thought whilst I was down there, I would treat my 3799 to a new strap as the original one was looking worse for wear.

After comparing the Brown Aligator, Black Aligator and Brown Calf Leather, I decided to go wi the latter - the Brown Aligator looked nice but was a little light (colour, not weight) for my liking compared to the Brown Calf Leather which is a nice dark deep red/brown and in my opinion looks better with the black 3799.

As per the outcome of the Mark XI service, I am completely wrapped with the new strap and look for the 3799 - I was a little worries about brown on black but have to say it looks great and the bulkier BP strap with rivets definitely changes the dynamics of the watch.

Unless I can find a few more spare dollars and splurge out for a Volvo Portuguese Yacht Club, I think that is my IWC purchases made for this year.

Tried on the Big Pilot over the weekend. Seems too big for my small wrists. Pity... it is such a beauty...
