Hey all, I am about to purchase my very first Big Pilot and would welcome some
    feedback, anything goes.

I have my eye on the original 5002 model, I love the retro look and styling.
However, with he model being old will it require expensive refurbishment and
    does it hold its value?

Anything I should look for to make sure I don't purchase a dud or get scammed?

    Appreciate your thoughts folks.

    Hi Lee

You will not go wrong with a 5002. It is the first and some will argue the
    best Big Pilot.

It will not require any more maintenance than the others, but due to the age,
released in 2002, any one you buy, will definitely benefit from a COR (Clean,
    Oil, Regulate) service.

    And yes, 5002 is desirable!

    Good luck on your search.

Just to add to Mark's comment.

If you're looking into a 5002 there's also a couple of variations to consider.

    • Slow Beat
    • Transitional
    • Fast Beat

Also in the slow beat model they originally came with "fish crowns" and if
previously serviced they will likely have been swapped for "Probus crowns"

    Great choice.

if you find one with the original fish crown it is even more collectible

    good luck!
