After a long wait I was able to pick up my second special edition this year, the all new 'Rodeo Drive' Big Pilot .
It combines a blue dial with a polished ceramic case.
As You can see in this picture with the Patrouille Suisse on the left, the blue is hard to catch.
    i96.photobucket.com/albums/l194/Panerex/IWC/L1000646_zpslnftpjbh.jpg

But the dial is definitively blue !i96.photobucket.com/albums/l194/Panerex/IWC/L1000632_zpscqoon90i.jpg

I'm guessing that the first scratches on this shiny case are going to hurt a lot...

But watches bring more joy on your wrist then in a safe, right ?

    Cheers,
    Philip

A beautiful watch, but what are the differences between this and the new BP LPP?
Black date wheel, different engraving on the back, different strap?

Hi Tilo, There are so many little differences that apart from the movement it's a completely different watch to me.
The case material -stainless steel vs ceramic- is the biggest difference I think.
Because of the weight it feels very different on the wrist. It's also slightly less high. While a steel BP always feels 'present', the ceramic Rodeo Drive doesn't only look stealth, it also feels like you forgot to put on a watch.

Are the rubber straps original or from a 3rd party?

I really want a matching rubber strap for the new Mark XVIII for greater functionality.

Hi Leon,It's an original IWC strap. To my knowledge it came out with the vintage edition of the Aquatimer a few years ago.
Although it doesn't look like it this strap is 22/18mm so it fits both the BP case and the original folding clasp.
I'm afraid however that the new Mark XVIII has an uncommon 21mm lug size but a well trained watchmaker might still be able to squeeze it in.
As a former Panerai-addict I just love rubber straps on my watches as they make them so much more functional indeed.
I believe that IWC should probably invest in more strap options for their watches.

Thanks for clarifying. Yeah, a good black no nonsense rubber strap will be awesome for the new Mark XVIII. IWC should make one! But could lead to product cannibalisation I guess across the portfolio.... Not as an additional option though.

I didn't know, it's ceramic. Looks like steel on most pictures posted here. Great! I wouldn't have asked if I'd known that. ;-)

Great idea Philip, these pics of the watch in a chair. I believe someone in Schaffhausen liked it too...
    Take a look at this

    And even on Instagram here

Maybe an idea for other collectors to make pics like these ?
