I got the idea to add a steel milanese mesh strap to an IW3714 from some 2012 photos I saw in this forum (thank you to STZ and Caddyhound!) but I didn't see any photos with a black dial. If anyone is curious:

I think it looks very sharp, a great combination! And very practical too if you live in a hot country. I would do it. By the way, which Milanese strap is it, the one that comes with the Portofino?

    Kind regards,
    Paul

It's the same steel milanese as the Portofino - although I ordered mine without it (in XL). FYI: IWC also makes a wider (22mm) steel milanese strap that will work with other models (as well as a red gold one that I'm very curious to see on an 8 Day Hand Wound Portofino).

22mm? - now I am intrigued. I wonder how it would look on a BP...

Yes, this is a great bracelet/strap, though not seen very often at this forum. I knew about the 22 mm version, even considered it for my steel Portofino 8 Days Handwound, but decided to stay with the Santoni strap. The Milanese bracelet in rose gold too? That would look quite special, maybe even on a rose gold Portuguese Automatic: thank you for the information! But I wonder about the matching colour of the gold: could one be sure it fits nicely? That is why I always bought a watch and a bracelet right away together, one always can buy an appropriate strap later, but the other way round could be tricky. Have you seen how this works with the steel Milanese bracelet and the watch you like to put it on?

    Kind regards,
    Paul

I'm not sure that would work aesthetically but you never know. I'd love to see the 22mm steel milanese on a white gold Portugese perpetual calendar. Has anyone seen that combination?

I tested the combination at an AD before buying my IW3714 but I had to special order the XL milanese. No issues. A red gold match might be more challenging.
