the latest highlight in blue: the Big Pilot’s Watch Annual Calendar Edition “Le Petit Prince” (Ref. IW502703) is limited to 250 pieces. This timepiece a white gold case not only has a blue dial but, for the first time in the history of IWC, also a blue movement: the IWC-manu factured 52850 calibre is visible through the sapphire- glass case back and gets its distinctive colour from a coating with various metallic oxides.

And some technical info about the production of the blue dials :

IWC often uses what is called physical vapour deposition (PVD) to manufacture blue dials. The PVD procedure
allows extremely dense coatings to be created, which are only fractions of a micrometre thick. The dials are first galvanically nickel-plated and gold-plated. The actual PVD coating then follows, where they are steamed in a vacuum chamber with gas eous metal ions. The final colour depends on the specific process properties and the coating thickness, among other things. As an alternative to PVD coating, special paints are also used to achieve the blue colour on certain models.

The thing I like best about that watch.....

is definitely the rotor. If I had that on my wrist (don't I wish!) I'm not sure I could take my eyes off that little guy spinning the day away. What a great way to pass the time during boring meetings!

Dick, I can see you wearing it upside down on your wrist to meetings you believe might be boaring ones!

What's not to like about this one?

...I believe it will sell out quickly.

Bravo, what can they think of next?

Thanks for sharing on the dial process, finally there is some information on the making of a blue sunburst dial.

Thanks Tonny, also for the additional info regarding dial production!

On the watch: I really really like the annual calendar on this watch, didn't expect that to work out on a big pilot! The rotor is ehhh..... interesting ;-)

    Best regards,

    Bob

Except they would probably be meetings I was conducting! Fortunately, since I am retired, that doesn't happen any more.

The watch is simply gorgeous. I'll have to continue to "make do" with my BP LPP, but I wish Santa Claus would bring me the Annual Calendar!

The watch is absolutely stunning. While I'll have to stick with my BP LPP for now, hope that Santa Claus might surprise me with the Annual Calendar.
