They are both beautiful but it would have to be the Portuguese for me.

PS - In the US last week to visit family and had my first cheese steak in 3 or 4 years. It was in North Carolina but the shop owner is from NJ. Not half bad and satisfied my craving, though not as much as that Portuguese would.

    Hi Alan,

probably I can help you out of this very tough decision.

You buy both of them. In addition you buy a ticket for a short vacation in Düsseldorf. We meet up in Düsseldorf, where you hand me out the PPC (which I obviously pay to you), and then we travel together to Schaffhausen and visit IWC, you with your new BPP and me with my new PPC. Isn't it a great idea? And all our problems are immediately solved:-)

Sorry, I can't help myself - I had the pleasure of trying on Mark's gorgeous blue PPC - I cast my vote for the PPC again :-)

It appears that the right-wrist experiment continues...

    A couple of thoughts.
First, I like all of you guys. Enablers all. LOL

Second, yes, the right wrist experiment continues and probably will remain except for my GST on the bracelet. But I have an extra link or two.

Third, Mark is correct that the PPC is a 5032. I would like to get the 5021 if given the choice. But there may not be a choice if the 5021 is so scarce.

Fourth, Arne is also right. I really am more of a BPP kind of guy. But, others are correct in noting the absence of a Portuguese perpetual.

Fifth, blue dials kill me every time.

    Aahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! gotta think this through......

Both beautiful watches but personally, already having a Portuguese in the collection (alas, a 5001 not a PPC) and not having a Big Pilot in the collection (the 3799 is bigger, but not a "Big" Pilot) I would sway towards the BPP - but that is just me and it will be you Alan who has to make the decision :)

I already have a BPP in steel from Bucherer with a black dial. So, there is that complication.

alan, forgot about your steel bucherer... what a great watch which works superbly in black. i can see the dilemma knowing your affinity with blue!

    good luck,

Ahh yes, you do have a dilemma indeed! In that case, I would probably go for the BPP once again as the BPP is a rarer breed than a PPC being a "production" watch - blue dial aside. Once again though, the decision is your and yours alone, albeit a enviable one.

Of course, you could always hold out and hope that a blue dialed Dubail PPC is released - now that would truly be something special. The current black dialed one would have to be my favourite IWC to date taking the great things of a Portuguese and mixing it with the dial of a Big Pilot - just a great looking watch!

As usual, another very interesting post!

Consider your decision carefully Alan, and keep us all in suspense for a bit longer... If only Hitchcock was still alive I'm sure he would be in The Forum.

By the way, those to little planes for N and S in the BPP are just fantastic, but, since you have the Bucherer...

    Cheers!
