    Hi All,

The weather over the weekend was great so I decided to head out for brekky / brunch and thought I would do it Top Gun style.

Now we all know that when preparing for a flight, you need to make sure you have the right equipment.

To start with, you need to have a suitable flight jacket -

    lh4.googleusercontent.com/-IofMjy22DtI/UCGgHm70w5I/AAAAAAAABDo/PWemWV_F7eE/s800/20120728_100230.jpg

    Followed by gloves:

    lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TBuopoUs8c8/UCGgINKv4iI/AAAAAAAABDs/aIIdHOlwWjc/s800/20120728_100251.jpg

You also need to make sure you have the right helmet to keep the glare from your eyes and more importantly on a crisp winter morning, keep your ears warm:

    lh4.googleusercontent.com/-jgqB1GNUaQ8/UCGgIljQ4KI/AAAAAAAABDw/j3aqC1n-or8/s800/20120728_100309.jpg

Before getting aboard, you also need to make sure you know where you are going and the right navigational tools to get you there -

    lh3.googleusercontent.com/-g5vEpekpcqE/UCGgJRHYxuI/AAAAAAAABD0/uIJrPur_o78/s800/20120728_100407.jpg

And last but not least you need to have your fighter jet prepped and fuelled, ready to go:

    lh5.googleusercontent.com/-wwVR_GWqEgM/UCGgKH_7lhI/AAAAAAAABDk/YIxcZAhhxw4/s912/20120728_100554.jpg

With such good weather I decided to get out of town, it was one of those beautiful crisp winter mornings where it is about 6 degrees c and sunny so headed to a place called the Grey Gum Cafe which is about 130 km's out of Sydney, and have to say that once I got there, it was sensational. In true Top Gun style, I managed to cover the distance in just under 90 minutes and luckily air traffic control (or the police) noticed me which was even better.

    lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Q8rwDCj7hIk/UCGgczfCb7I/AAAAAAAABEM/kySnhsB_nEg/s800/Screen%2520Shot%25202012-08-08%2520at%25209.10.01%2520AM.jpg

This was the relaxing sight when I got there:

    lh5.googleusercontent.com/-7_XJXTuU8a4/UCGgLMafmHI/AAAAAAAABD4/jegs9djMRrY/s912/20120728_120734.jpg

    lh4.googleusercontent.com/-0y1FgNyFNgc/UCGgMJ7K8RI/AAAAAAAABD8/L1yW2r7jAOU/s912/20120728_120742.jpg

And as I had left a little late and it was closer to lunch than breakfast by the time I got there, I decided to go with the breakfast of champions:

    lh4.googleusercontent.com/-_jGk5zHt5Kw/UCGgN_Q7j2I/AAAAAAAABEE/FHsuO60KEt8/s912/20120728_121948.jpg

Not the healthiest choice but who can argue with a bucket of coffee and a great burger after a brisk ride in such a setting!

    Cheers for now.

    Ben

    Gee Shing,
That Swiss beauty by the Golden Arches? LOL

I had to do a double take there Shing - the way the lighting is in your shot it looked like a steel case due to the ceramic not looking as dark as usual - I love the 3789 and will some day need to add one next to the 3799!

    It's not ceramic - it's sandblasted steel.

Ahh, no wonder it didn't look "right" - a 3717? From some angles it looks like a lighter grey ceramic, from others, stainless - guess that is the effect of the sandblasting .

Excellent report of how to do a breakfast run right!

Nice watch, nice bike, nice follow on posts and with the exception of the "Golden Arches" mismatch with that watch posted by Shing - all is spot on.

Alan, I believe I am about the only one old enough here to recall the line.."we've got burgers, we've got shakes, we've got what it takes...at the Golden Arches" - LoL!

or perhaps this very sweet puff is more suitable for breakfast ?

If I drive a 130KM north, I will be out of Singapore and well into Malaysia...lol. I had the opportunity to do some national service training north of Rockhampton in 1996 and that burger really reminds me of those days. Great trip and thanks for sharing.

@ Shing ...a marked improvement there, I might add!

Thank you for restoring my confidence in your gastronomic preferences.

Fortunately, your horological preferences were not under discussion :~)

    Shing,

No mismatch that I can see. Unfortunately that combo is not offered at our local McDonald's or else I would not hesitate to get it. Extra napkins please...I don't want to drool on my Swiss Patrol Pilot.

McDonald's....you know you want it !!

Love that 3717 every time I see it,

    Andy

Looks like a good road for a bike ride and a chronograph to measure the time taken.

    Safe riding.

    Cheers from the cellar.

PS The mug shot below was taken at the Phillip Island MotoGP/

    Hi Bendy,

Nice shots, I trust you had fun. And thanks for sharing.

By the way is that a Mustang Fastback that I glimpse under your gear?

    Cheers!

Ahh, that explains the extreme rugged up look with the jacket and the cap firmly pressed down on your head! I have ridden Phillip Island a few times and there is nothing colder than exiting pit lane in perforated leathers and getting hit by the wind coming of Bass Straight - but then you get into the southern loop and and the view is one of the best views from a racetrack anywhere in the world - you just cant afford to take in the view too often as it is one of the fastest tracks in the world too!

Hi Jeronimo - yes, well spotted, that is my baby - a '64 1/2 / '65 Fastback Mustang in pretty much original condition - whilst the TopGun and the KTM RC8 are well matched I think the Mustang is more suited to wearing the MK XI (might be able to get away with a Spitfire in the 'stang but I dont have one and do have the MK XI) - I have had the 'stang for 10 years now and for some reason have very few photos of it - I will have to work on getting some together but for now that will be a project for another weekend - I can see a MK XI based "Mustang Takes Off" project in the not too distant future :)

    Cheers,

    Ben

    Hi Ben,

I have to congratulate you again! The '65 Fastback is a very beautiful car and fine piece of auto history, if you combine it with a Mark 11, for me at least (being a car lover as much as a watch lover) is what you call a double winner.

Please do spoil us with photos of that!

    Cheers!

Ben - I was reading your post while watching Olympic volleyball. With divided attention, I assumed the gear was for mountain biking. The I saw that you covered 130km in 90 minutes and I thought you should be in the Olympics. Finally, I noticed the shot of your motorcycle. Looks like a really good burger.
