Good day all,
I wanted to share my story of my grandfathers watch, I've share this in a nice forum in the NL but I think it is most appropriate to share it with IWC passionates.
A few years back and before I graduated university I found at my mothers house the movement, dial, case back and hands of what was my grand fathers time piece. At the moment I went online to try to find information and came to this forum, which I read an entry that got me even more excited about putting this family heirloom back to life. www.iwc.com/forum/en/discussion/15526/
After several years of trying to get it fixed, it was sent to Schaffhausen to be only sent back saying they couldn't put it together because they don't have the machinery to manufacture the missing parts, which I understand. Asking around I was told the best possible scenario was to find another cal.8541B 910A with hopes I can combine them. I live very close by a vintage watch shop which I always stop to look trough the window when walking my dog. To my delight one of those random days, they added a 910A to the window collection, which I didn't hesitate to ring the bell.
The result is this.
Hope you enjoy it the story!
