Hi All,
I notice on my recently acquired cal. 89 for every turn the crown rushes back ~1/8th of a turn. Noticed the same behavior on a very old citizen movement. On all the other modern and vintage movements I have, the clicks are finer (assume the ratchet teeth are finer). The cal.89 runs very accurate I get ~42 hrs on near full charge - I love the ticking sound and beautiful movement (It hasn't aged a bit in 50 years).
What I am observing is it by design or is something loose on my sample? Doing a bit of research, I find single tooth "click" on the Cal.89 and big ratchet teeth leading to wider recoil angle. Could this attribute to some of my observation? On top of this is the click designed to miss a few teeth before clicking into position (I read some place this helps relieve excess pressure on the main spring)?
I appreciate all the help and please share links info. base for movements and their design.
Thanks a lot,
-Michael.
