I recently acquired a 1950s steel dress watch with the Caliber 89 movement. The movement is running beautifully, but the dial has developed some quite heavy spotting. In the broader vintage world, people talk about "tropical" dials or "honest patina," but I know the IWC community tends to value a cleaner look.
I am torn between keeping it exactly as is to preserve the history or looking for a period-correct replacement dial. Is there a consensus here on where the line is drawn? I want to respect the heritage of the watch, but I also want it to look like the high-end piece of engineering it actually is.
