Can anyone tell me if IWC used a caliber 95, or 952, in the late 60's and 70s, for oversize watch cases, possibly even for "Portuguese" watches? Would it look similar to a caliber 98?
Thanks

Calibre 952 is the later shock resistant version of the pocket watch calibre 95, and looks like a thinner calibre 98 or 982.
The calibre 952 was not used in wristwatches by IWC, so you have seen a "marriage" --someone ex-factory converted it to a wristwatch.
IWC did use calibre 98 and later 982 in authentic Portuguese watches. There was a total of 365 of them known, so your chances of finding one are virtually non-existent.
The Ref 5251 Portofino Moonphase wristwatch used a calibre 9521 and the Ref 5441 Portugieseruhr used a calibre 9828.
See IWC's Pocket/Wrist Watches
The image of the Ref 5251 Portofino Moonphase is not available in the article and an example can be found in the archive in this post by whichwatch, image below.
Cheers from the cellar
Greg --true, but the Portofino Moonphase wasn't from "the late 60's and 70s", nor was the Portuguese 5441.
Thank you both very much. Yes, I am looking at a marriage of the 952 and a watchmaker's case, somewhere in Europe. The movement looks beautiful.
Here is the Cal 9521 movement that goes with the watch Cellar showed.
