Hmm...something is not right here, I'm afraid.

The movement appears to be a calibre 73, but all calibre 73s had subsidiary seconds. Also, this calibre was only used in pocket watches.

The numbering on the case is way off; at most it shouldn't be more that few hundred thousand more than the movement number. I'd estimate that your case number is more than 80 years too late for the movement.

All this leads me to conclude that your watch, unfortunately, is a "marriage" --it never left the factory that way, and instead has been cobbled together with real parts. Here, the quality is such and the differences so fine that it really appears to be an excellent forgery, using a real movement stripped of its seconds indication.

    Sorry!

    Hi Michael,
thanks for your reply. This confused me a bit. Does this mean that my watch is a fake one or this watch was transformed from a pocket watch to a wristwatch ?
I presume it is less valuable in this condition.I payed a lot of money for it.
Thanks for your reply and looking forward for your advice. Please advise me what to do, shall I give it back or if I will re sell it will I get good money for it?
    Regards Lori

    Hi Lori
Your watch is indeed lovely to look at albeit the missing seconds hand.
And yes, as Michael said, it is a pocket watch re-cased as a wristwatch. This work was not done by IWC and has parts representing two different eras. It is therefore a marriage. Pocket watches did not have the level of shock protection required for a wristwatch so it is not ideally suited for this purpose.

I would strongly recommend that you return the watch and hopefully you can get your money back.
