    Nice try

But I prefer the strap, as its character is closer to the inconspicuous appearance of the watch. And it adds some coluur: I like this strap for this watch.

    Kind regards,
    Paul, wearing titan Inge Automatic

    Personal choice I know .........

but I too prefer to see the first generation Pilots on strap.
That said the IWC bracelets are superb quality and are a pleasure to wear.

    I like it

    Hello Heiko,

I think it works quite well and this way, you can wear the watch in hot humid conditions, where a strap might be uncomfortable.

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

My June 2001 post tried that, but...

...Just a few weeks after this forum started. The post is linked below.

But --and it's a big but-- is there no value to authenticity? A bracelet here is not bad looking and admittedly it's sometimes practical to wear metal in hot weather. I even tried it, so I'm not being critical. However, I do think fine mechanical watches represent a tradition, and that's especially the case for flight watches.

That doesn't mean there must be a slavish adherence to the past. I think a "neo-classicism" can work, and the St. Exupery models are prime examples. But also I think a bracelet on a traditional flight watch is an oxymoron (Bonklips notwithstanding). Almost as bad as one on a Ref. 325 Portuguese.

    Regards,
    Michael

Pilots watches on leather straps are

my preference......the continuity of the dial coulour texture is more synchronised for my eyes.........

    Somehow I don't disagree as I am currently ...

looking for a really nice black croc strap and even with a deployant clasp for my Mark XV.

Nevertheless, this picture tells a lot. Please admire these looks of the pictured MKXV, the watch I am currently wearing.

Times and trends do change, and I have been experimenting with nice "pilot" looking straps myself. The only one I should like now (as a Xmas present) is a black croc, as I stopped looking for a matching brown one.

I also started realising why the genuine watch comes with a black buffalo strap. Design and understanding comes with age and experience, I guess.

    Ciao, Rob.

Looks OK, but I prefer a strap >>>>

....that gives the watch a more traditional (vintage) look!

    Just my 2 cents :-)
