Hi Gary,
i am no sure if that is a good idea. The dial is made of several layers, the
base metal, the galvanic coating and a laquer to protect the galvanic coating.
Over the years exposed ro sunlight, humidity and ageing, the laqer get
tarnished and starts to get stained. Processing the surface of old dials the
way you describe, removes the laquer and exposes the galvanized surface. Over
time the galvanization will start to oxidize and the result will look worse
than before. The imprints on the dial will also suffer from this kind of
"abrasive" technique.
You can try, the worst thing to happen is that you have to give the dial for a
reprint or a redail.
