Among the best of my experiences on this forum has been becoming friends with many collectors, including especially Antonio Gomes from Portugal.

Tony, who posts as clepsydra on the forum, is a terrific guy, quick-witted and always with bright and frequently penetrating insights. He's also a true collector of vintage IWC watches and a serious student of horology.

Tony researched and wrote a truly scholarly article article entitled "IWC Vintage Portuguese: Identification of the Hallmark on ref. 325". The article was published in the April 2015 issue of the British Horological Journal. I'm please to let you know that you can view and download this great work at www.iwcforum.com/IWC.pdf.

The first page is shown below, but due to size restrictions with this forum's software it's best to view and save the PDF version linked above.

    Hurrah!

It's rare anymore to have new information about our favorite watches, especially when you've been around the Forum as long as I have... but then comes a wonderful article like this which gets us into the history of such a historic piece!
I'm so pleased this was accepted into the Horological Journal- it deserves such status.
Thanks Antonio for enlightening us, and thanks for posting it, Michael.

I had a chance to see a preview of this fine piece of research when Antonio gave a presentation in Schaffhausen. This a perfect example of the high level of scholarship offered by some of the collectors on this forum. Thank you, Antonio!

Fantastic! I was also lucky to be in Schaffhausen during Antonio presentation! It's great that it's issued as the article as well!

Just few old photos from presentation in October 2014:

To understand the history of one of the most sought after IWC icons Ref. 325, it is essential that parts of it inheritance not present in the IWC archives, are researched and published by collectors.
There is only one outstanding author who could do this....
    Kind regards,
    Adrian,
    (alwaysiwc).
