Today we had a nice lunch and a lot of talk about watches and a bit of football too. Andrew Thomas was in Amsterdam for a football tournament and he was able to make some time for a lunch meeting this rainy Sunday.
I arrived a bit early so I had a stroll in the drizzling rain and took a few pictures of Amsterdam. We had our meeting at BLINQ, almost on the famous 'Leidse Plein'. It actually was not too far away from the Richemont offices in Amsterdam (see picture).
After about fifteen minutes, I decided to go back to Blinq and noticed that Andrew was there already. I joined him and it didn't take long for the others to arrive. Our small group consisted of Andrew, Mark, Paul, Peter and I. Unfortunately Rob and Nicky had to cancel at the last minute.
Andrew told us about the football tournament and explained that his team didn't play for the finals due to a counting system called 'Amsterdam football rules'. Next year they are planning on winning the cup though, when playing in Budapest.
As you can imagine, our table was filled with watches and the waitresses were quite surprised to see five guys with all these watches. One waitress started a little conversation and told us she really liked IWC.
We talked a lot about IWC, what we would like to see in future models, the history and why we were so drawn to IWC. It was interesting to notice that the IWC Forum plays an important role in this love for IWC for several of us.
After we talked more than an hour, we really had to order
lunch and so the watches were put away to make room for a nice soup followed by a nice club sandwich. By then, it was already almost three o clock and we had to leave.
It was a pleasure to meet Andrew and the others and I am looking forward to more meetings like these!
Kind regards,
Clemens
