Did Hodinkee blow it again with the Mark XVIII 'Tribute to Mark XI'?

When Hodinkee reported on the original Mark XVIII they reported that it contained a Sellita movement. They later corrected it to the ETA2892. Today they reported on the upcoming Mark XVIII 'Tribute to Mark XI' and again said the movement would be the Sellita SW300. Is that another error or will there actually be a different movement in the Mark XI Tribute than in the standard XVIII?

I think not. IWC is using Sellita based movements in it's lineup for some time now, i really don't think they switched to ETA so late in the game when Swatch Group is constantly limiting their supply of ETA movements.

It was confirmed long ago that the movement in the Mark XVIII is the ETA2892. So the question is, has IWC changed to Sellita for the Mark XI Tribute or did Hodinkee again misstate the brand of movement being used?

Honestly, all i know is that on one of the 'Friday' Hodinkee shows, there was the new CEO of IWC, and they talked about Sellita movements in it's current lineup. But actually, does it really matter with movement do they use? Since the patent on ETA movements has been expired, the Sellita has basically copied the movement using the original ETA design.
I mean, we can all agree the the price is a little 'premium' for ETA or Sellita movement, but movement wise, they are the same basically

Purely psychological for me - the'real' thing vs. a clone. In terms of actual operation I'm sure the difference is meaningless.

Tonny, any idea why the Sellita was chosen for the Tribute rather than the ETA that's in the standard XVIII?

It looks like IWC has only equipped both the Tribute and the Antoine de St-Exupéry Mark XVIII with the Selita movement. This doesn't raise any concerns with me. They might have moved towards Selita movement for the new models launched this year and kept their ETA for the earlier versions of the MarkXVIII.

It seems they did. The question is why?

I don't know why IWC does so, but I think it really is a pity to find Sellita in IWC watches in 2017. And in a so beautiful watch as this Tribute.

All current Pilot Mark XVIII are produced using Selita movements. They just confirmed me that the Black Pilot Mark XVIII with ETA movement is no longer available.
