My mother in law just gave me this watch. Cosmetically it is in great shape
but it definitely needs servicing as it loses time not long after winding
(within a couple hours it starts to slow down). At any rate - does anyone
know the model and appoximate year? There are no markings on the back of the
case.

It is either:
Caliber 83 made 1930 - 1947
Or Caliber 88 made 1946 - 1964

Thank you so much. I live in atlanta and we have no IWC Boutiques. I want to
make sure I do the restoration correctly. Is it fine to go to an IWC retailer
for restoration or do I need to go to an IWC Boutique or even send it to IWC
directly through their concierge? I am not doing this so I can sell the
watch. It has been in my wife's family for a long time (watch of my father-
in-law, who passed before I met my wife) and I want to keep it forever and
pass it down.

You can drop it of at an IWC retailer.
The watch only needs a COR service.... Clean Oil Regulate.
If you go the route of Restoration, the watch will need to go back to
Schaffhausen and will come back looking like new. They will replace the dial
(which may not be the same) hands, crown and many parts as well.
The watch as shown has incorrect crown, which will be replaced with service.
Closer scrutiny is required to ascertain dial quality.
seeing that this watch was worn as is for so long by your Father in-law I
would just have it serviced and enjoy
