As some of you know, I was recently struggling with the decision on what the next addition to my modest IWC collection will be. I originally wanted to get the 5001-09 black dial Portuguese Auto. But I became quickly smitten by the Ardoise dial. Of course the ultimate would be for me to get the Ardoise Port Auto but alas, I cannot spend my entire paycheck on a single watch, no matter how beautiful. The family needs to eat as well! So, I decided to get the 5001-09 AND the Port Chrono Ardoise.

Today, I have completed half of my insane mission. I received my 5001-09 and needless to say I love the watch. I was a little worried about the added size and heft of the watch on my dainty 6.75" wrists. These fears were completely unfounded. For whatever reason, the Port Auto feels more comfortable on my wrist than my other smaller IWC watches (Port Chrono, Pilot Chrono). Actually, I think its proportions are just perfect! Just adjusting the time, I could not believe how silky smooth the movement felt. Anyway, I can go on and on about this watch but I am sure most people here know just how special it is.

Now I can set my sites on the second half of my mission, the Ardoise Port Chrono. Once this holiday season is over, I hope to get it. Actually I can get it now if I dont get my wife or kids any Christmas presents....hmmm that sounds like a possible plan......

    Pics to come tomorrow!

Don't be so sure about being done...

the Uhren virus is very virulent and you can't count on stopping for the year even if there are only a few weeks left. Congratulations on the Port Auto. It is a great watch indeed.

I notice you said "for the year"...

2009 is only 7 weeks away. Then you can start all over again.

Precisely my dear Watson! 2009 is right around the corner and with it comes a new "watch budget" which I will merrily spend all on a single watch!!!! Looking forward to a great 2009!

Better 1 beauty than 2 near beauties

All within perspective of course, but the process of deciding what THE watch is, is very rewarding. I think you made the right choice to start with. Enjoy it!

    Kind regards,
Paul, wearing Portuguese Perpetual Calendar (now THAT was a choice... already five years ago)

Congrats on the 5001!!!!!! So you think you're >>>

    ....."done like dinner", eh??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

The second half of your duo will come sooner than later, you'll see ;-))

Christmas presents, what's that? Another watch box wrapped under the tree is all you need.

    Cheers and more Portuguese :-))

I know how you feel about the Port Auto, it's a stunning watch indeed. I hope your other watches will still get some wrist time in the near future :-)

Enjoy your new watch and wear it in good health.

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

There is always an Internet café around the corner

So at least you could give us the feedback! What might be worse is that your wife might actually like the watch and won't let you borrow it! Then you have to get another for yourself too!

    Kind regards,

    Clemens

PS: I tried to convince my wife into a Small Ingenieur, that way I could get the regular one for myself but it didn't work. I did get the regular one though, albeit a bit later than I had hoped ;-)

I am staying away from this forum until after 2008

I simply cannot deal with all the temptation! I think its in the best interest of my bank account and marriage if I stayed away from this forum until after 2008...its going to be hard but it is something I simply must do....
