    Hi
    I think I have a dilemma..
Some of us have had the same I presume.
    Perhaps you can advice me.
I have had my Mark XII with folding clasp just overhauled by IWC,
but of the watches I own (3706, UTC, AT 3536,3719 and 3767) it gets to little wristtime nowedays.. This due to the fact that the ATs are simply great.
I'm thinking of selling the Mark XII witch is now brand new (THX Schaffhausen) for a AT 3767 white dail. So changing one for another one..
    But should I ??
My friend say (but they're no experts) that I might regret it, because the Mark becomes more value every year. And the 3767 will not soon (if ever) become a collectors item.
But due to the fact that I wear the watches and don't buy them for the safe I don't know.
What's in your opinion the bright thing to do?
    Happy hollidays to all
    Cheers
    Bas Dekkers

A friend sells what he does not use and if he changes his mind he will buy another, he is forever saying i should follow his example, but then buying another watch car or even house is not a financial issue for him. I buy to use and keep. Can you not buy the AT without selling the mkXII? A bit of scrimping and saving may enable you to add +1 rather than an exchange with or without cash flowing in or out?

In my opinion this is a financial issue. If you want to buy another watch that you like and you can only do so by selling another watch, then the decision is yours, in that only you can really know whether the new watch is dear enough to you to abandon a watch you own and probably like. If you don't need to sell the watch that you like, then keep it, even if you don't wear it often. The simple question in this is then: why should you sell it? You don't owe it to anybody, it is your watch, and the watch doesn't demand to be worn often. Maybe this is the starting point where a watch buyer slowly becomes a watch collector. I never sold a watch.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

I'm different from a lot of people around here. When it comes to watches, I'm promiscuous as can be. I'm only allowed one woman (and have been married for 41 years), so watches are my vice! :-)

I have gone through a huge number of watches over the years, before finally settling down a bit in the last few years. If I don't wear it, I sell it, as long it is a model that can be replaced if I change my mind. This has allowed me to enjoy far more watches than my checkbook would otherwise allow.

The Mark XII is no longer the easiest watch to find, but they are still available. You could own the AT which you seem to want, and if you later grow tired of it or change your mind, you could turn it into something else or back into a Mark XII.

But since you seem to like pilot watches, you might want to wait to see what SIHH brings from IWC before making any changes.

Hi Bas - the good thing is that there is no "right" answer here - only what is right for you :-)

If it helps I can share my experience with you. I do fall into the same category as Paul though, I have not sold a single watch I bought. The reason is mainly that every watch I own I really, really wanted and I used quite a bit of time before buying it. I am not like Greg's frined who can just buy whatever he wants, so my buying process usually involves saving up and choosing carefully.

As such all the watches I own mean something to me and I really like them all. Now, this does not mean that they all get equal wrist time. And here it is that I may have an experience which you may find helpful. I have quite a number of times put on a watch which had been sitting in the winder/box for quite some time - only to find out that "wow - why have I left this one for so long?? This is a really cool watch" And suddenly I get a whole new appreciation for that "old one" which had been sitting there. And in those moments I am always really glad I never considered departing with any of my "friends".

Good luck though, and remember there is no right answer here - there is only what is right for you :-)

Splendid response, I am experiencing this right now. After quite some time I wear my rose gold Saint Exupéry Chrono, once my favourite. A special day, a special watch. Thank you for puting this into words.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

I find that certain watches fall out of favor over time and I think I should sell them. Then I put them on and usually rediscover why I bought the piece in the first place. Consequently I very seldom sell a watch.
Nevertheless, if you are not wearing a watch then sell it. Unless you are investing in watches( never a good idea) I would not worry about what it might be worth in the future.
